JACKSON (JACK) ALEXANDER HARDY At home in Vernon BC, surrounded by his wife and daughters, Jack passed away on August 22, 2006 after a brief illness. Predeceased by his parents, Martha and Duff Hardy and brothers, Howard, Norman and Ray; Jack is survived by his wife Cathie; daughters, Elspeth (Harry Haid) and Alix (Iain Barnett) and grandchildren, Don Haid, Ben Haid, Aaron Barnett, (Andrea) and Jacqueline Barnett. Born in Thunder Bay, ON in 1924, Jack married his high school sweetheart Cathie Murray in 1945. In the early years he was a pilot officer in the RCAF and an accountant at Ft. William Grain Elevator before being transferred to Winnipeg in 1950, settling in St. Vital, and making many lifelong friends with neighbours on Glenlawn Avenue. Some years later Jack joined the Provincial Government as the Administrator of the Provincial Sales Tax. Always interested in politics, he served as Alderman, Mayor and MLA for St. Vital. Moving to B.C. in the early 70's, he continued his career in Municipal Government until retiring in Vernon, BC. Full of life and with a great sense of humour Jack achieved much happiness and success in his 81 years and his was a life well lived. His prime focus was always his family who he enveloped with unconditional love and constant support earning him the respect and absolute adoration of every family member. Respecting his wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Hospice House c/o Vernon and District Hospice Society, 3506-27th Ave., Vernon, BC, V1T 1S4, or a charity of your choice.
