MARGARET LILIAN FORBES (nee HICKS) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Lilian Forbes on January 24, 2007 at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Leonard Ian Forbes in 1995. She is survived by her three children, Janet Gail Adlard, Irene Elizabeth Dutiaume (Rick) and Robert Ian Forbes (Cheryl); her nine grandchildren, Todd (Kelly), Jaladriel (Bryce), Jaime (Jed), Mark (Kelly), Daegan (Amanda), Jordon (Hana), Brandon (Amanda), Brodin and Brady; also her four long awaited great-grandchildren, Meado, Ayden, Violet and Owen. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters-in-law, Ruby and Mary, and brother-in-law Dave. Margaret was born, the only child to George and Charlotte Hicks, in Winchester, England in her Grandmother's house on November 3, 1919. She was raised in London, until the family relocated to Brighton during the Second World War where she worked for the British Railway. As a war bride, Margaret came to Canada in 1946 landing at Pier 21. Settling in Winnipeg, Margaret worked side by side with Len to build a home, a family, and successful business along with a cabin on Betula Lake where many happy times were spent. St. Vital was home to Margaret for over 60 years. Her nine grandchildren were Mum's pride and joy. Counting on her fingers, she would often name each grandchild (in birth order), state how well each had turned out , and marvel at their accomplishments. Margaret will be remembered for the loyalty and love she held for her family and friends. Her British humour and her quick wit will truly be missed. Her insatiable appetite for learning and the ability to recall the minutest detail always made for great conversation. Her extraordinary ability to complete crosswords in record times has set the bar for those of us who challenged her. Her wonderful sense of mischief and infectious laugh will remain with us forever. Special thanks go out to: Auntie Ruby (British Columbia), Margaret thought of her as a sister; her school friends, Pat (Oxford, England) and Beryl (Lethbridge, AB) with whom Margaret remained in touch and friends for over 80 years. Also, Mabel (Rick's Mom) and Uncle Dave for making Sunday Senior dinners a treat. Thanks go out to all Margaret's friends and neighbours at Riverside Lions Estates. Her four years there were very comfortable. At Margaret's request, cremation has taken place and a private family service was held. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit for the exceptional care of Margaret. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Margaret to the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit Endowment Fund, through the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, Room D1003, 409 Taché Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2H 2A6.
