STANLEY ARTHUR BABIUK 1936 - 2007 Peacefully, on Sunday, April 15, 2007, Stan passed away after a short, courageous battle with cancer. Stan was predeceased by his mother Rose and father Spiridan. Stan will be forever missed by his loving wife Helen (Ogibowski). Chosen daughter Monique (Greg) Thompson and grandson Blake Thompson. Stan will be missed by his sisters, Elaine Hladun, Kamsack, SK, Lena (Walter) Kotak, Gilbert Plains, MB, Ann Noga, Grandview, MB, Pauline (Jim) Miller, Las Vegas, NV, and brothers, Bill (Lois), Edward (Millie), John (Nell), Winnipeg, MB, and uncle Bill Babiuk, East St. Paul, MB. Stan was born in Stornoway, SK on January 7, 1936 and grew up in Gilbert Plains, MB where he completed his high school education. Stan worked at Gilbert Plains Bakery while attending school. Stan moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1955 and began working with his uncle Bill Babiuk and his brothers in the roofing industry. In 1956 he commenced employment with North Star Oil (Shell Canada). In 1966, Stan began his career with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, retiring in 1994. An avid curler for 56 years, Stan also enjoyed playing slo-pitch softball with the Winnipeg Senior Mens South-West Division. Stan was a warm, gentle, tenderhearted man who cared for the welfare of humanity. Prior to his illness he very actively volunteered at Poseidon Personal Care Centre. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He and Helen would have been celebrating their 45th Wedding Anniversary on May 12 of this year. The family would like to thank the staffs at St. Boniface Hospital and, for his short stay at, Riverview Health Centre for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Funeral service will be Friday, April 20 at 10:00 a.m. with interment and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be his nephews, David and Stephen Babiuk, Vern Mernett, Roy Ogibowski, Grant Zeilstra, and son-in-law Greg Thompson. Eulogy will be given by Vern Mernett.
