ZANE MATIATION Peacefully, on Monday, June 25, 2007 at the Portage District General Hospital, Zane Matiation of Portage la Prairie, widower of the late Georgina, longtime friend of Lilly Boychuk, passed away at the age of 70 years. Zane was born on April 12, 1937, son of Anne and Michael Matiation, at Oakburn, MB where he was raised and received his education. He then attended Normal School in Winnipeg, graduating in 1955. He then taught in Oakburn, Portage, Metz France and Harold Edwards at Southport. In 1970 he married Georgina Hill. In 1992 he retired and continued to reside in Portage la Prairie and winter months in Arizona. Zane enjoyed golfing and loved to travel. He was especially known for his Bagpipe Playing, which he did all over the world. Predeceased by his wife Georgina in 1995; three brothers, Andrew, Peter and Bill; two sisters, Phyllis and Sophie, he leaves to mourn his passing his longtime friend Lilly Boychuk; three sisters, Mary Ewanychyn of Winnipeg, Ollie Findlay of Winnipeg and Elsie Siebert of Sarnia, ON, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service was held in the Trinity United Church, Portage la Prairie, on Thursday, June 28, 2007 with the Reverend Julie Baker officiating. The church choir sang In The Garden and the congregational hymn was Just As I Am , with Audrey MacFarlane presiding at the organ. The family considered all friends and family in attendance as the Honorary Pallbearers, with Sheldon Siebert as the Urn Bearer. Eulogy was give by Morris Boychuk, Ross Hicks and Orille Hogue. Piper Don Roy played as the service ended. The Portage Lions Club formed an Honour Guard. Members of the Portage Golf Club and residents of Kelly K Street attended in their respective groups. Interment took place in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation Box 1106, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3C5.
