BRETT DUNCAN Courageously and on his own terms, on December 7, 2009, Brett Duncan, 21, loved son of Debra and Stuart Duncan, and loved brother of Bryce, Rhiann and Rane Duncan, left for his journey to walk with Jesus. At the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by loving family, Brett left his earthly body in peace. Brett was deeply loved by many, his Amma and Ampa, Joyce and James Buhr, Auntie (Dee) Deneen and Uncle Rico (Bertschinger) and cousins Brie and Breck Bertschinger, Auntie Sheri and Uncle Randy (Miller) and cousins Shea and Wyatt Miller. His great-grandmother Freda Nicklin, Aunt Janie Duncan, and many other relatives from the Buhr, Duncan, Nicklin, Millard, Duguay, and Findlater families. Brett's youth was mostly spent in Calgary and Brett will be very missed by best friend Simon Kim along with many other good buddies, and close friends of the family in Calgary. He had dear friends in Winnipeg who will miss Brett's wisdom, compassion and sense of humour. Brett Stuart James Duncan was born on October 6, 1988 in Calgary, Alberta, and attended Fish Creek Elementary School and Mid-Sun Junior High School. Brett played soccer for several years for the Mid-Sun Soccer Club and for the school team. Brett loved spending time with his friends. Brett received his High School Diploma in Winnipeg and last year completed his Bartending Certificate. Brett loved nature and animals. Brett enjoyed a wide range of books and was an extremely well read young man. He also loved a good joke, concerts, and was a passionate debater. Brett is an inspiration and hero to many, always displaying courage, strength and love throughout his life. To Brett there was only one true hero and that was Jesus, to divest himself of this earthly body and walk with him in truth and love, he has found his greatest joy. Brett touched many lives with his incredible wisdom in spirituality and philosophy, and his exceptional artistic and musical talent. Brett had very deep knowledge and understanding of The Bible and A Course In Miracles, and tried to teach all of us the true meaning. Brett amassed a huge collection of eclectic music and movies, introducing many people to different music, and his talents shined in playing both drums and guitar. Brett is a one of a kind spirit. Brett was the first child, and first grandchild of the amazing family group of 16 that travelled together regularly to the family cottage at Pleasant Valley, many times to Orlando, ski trips to Fernie and other travels. The family aches with much pain in the Earthly loss of Brett, but is comforted by Brett's strong spirit, love and energy that is with us forever. There is no death, he is at peace and ready for the next part, which is glorious. The family greatly appreciates the doctors, nurses and staff at the Victoria General Hospital and the Health Sciences Centre for their care and support to all of us, and greatly thank Chaplain Lynn Granke. Also the family thanks the Winnipeg Police Service and paramedics for their efforts and compassion on December 1. We wish to thank the many family and friends that have been with us during this time. Special thanks to Kyle Flynn, Leah Bracken and the Dare family. And to everyone, the love and caring that you have shown is a reflection of the way Brett lived his life. The spiritual support the family is receiving is so greatly appreciated, thanks to all, special thanks to Cathy and Michelle. Brett cared immensely about those less fortunate in our world, and he regularly donated much of his own money to those in need. We ask for no flowers, instead please donate in Brett Duncan's memory to World Vision Canada, Siloam Mission, or any charity of your choosing. A cremation has taken place and a family gathering for interment will take place at a later date. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pembina Hotel in Winnipeg at 1011 Pembina, where Brett worked, on Sunday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. The family requests attendees to dress very casually, wear jeans and come in comfort and peace. We thank Hilary and Trevor and ask that all come with joy and share your stories and memories of Brett, everyone is welcome. At a later date, a special gathering will also take place in Calgary. Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God .

  • Brett Duncan was a man that I admired deeply. He was a highly intelligent man. He was too intelligent and loving for this earth. He realized that this earth was very cruel. He was very spiritual and too spiritual for any human being to understand. He will live on in many years to come. He was one of a kind.
