MICHAEL FITZHENRY

MICHAEL SHANE FITZHENRY January 1, 1962 December 11, 2009 Michael left us unexpectedly on December 11, 2009. Left to cherish his memory are his special friend, Judy Shaver; parents Eileen and Sherman Murphy; father Dominic Varrenti (Marlene); adoptive father Jim Fitzhenry (Evelyn Robinson); brothers Carl Fitzhenry (Maureen) and Steven Fitzhenry (Lesley Castledine); sister Wanita Lippai (David); and his beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Paul in 1983. Mike was a kind-hearted person who adored children and telling jokes. He grew up in Moose Jaw, Portage la Prairie, Trenton and Winnipeg, playing hockey and excelling at school. After graduating from Silver Heights Collegiate in 1980, he enjoyed travelling with Sherman's band, Three Penny Opera, doing sound and lights. He loved rock music and summer visits to the island at Lake of the Woods. Most of all, Mike valued his family and friends, and recognized the fundamental importance of love. He often played the role of peacemaker, encouraging people to treat each other with respect and affection. His acute intelligence and long struggle with health issues gave him a special perspective on the value of close relationships. He will be deeply missed. A memorial reception will be held on Wednesday, December 16 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. (eulogy at 3:00 p.m.) at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillvray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. THOMSON IN THE PARK 925-1120 Condolences may be sent to: www.thomsoninthepark.com

  • Mike and I knew each other in the early 80's. I was around at the time of Three Penny Opera, Paul's passing and Mike's first hospitalization. I then ended up living in the same apt. building with Mike and Carl. I don't know how we lost touch and have thought of both Mike and Carl over the years, thus my googling them now and finding Mike's obituary. I am so saddened by this and hope your families are finding peace as the years go on. If you see this Carl, big hugs to you and I would love to hear from you. I continue to live in Brandon, have left my number and email on this site or can be found on facebook. Again, my condolences to you all.

  • Michael was my best friend through high school. We did everything together. Used to relax at the pool and get so tanned people would think we were from Florida! All the girls were crazy about him! Those beautiful eyes, and who can forget that hair!!!! We were a very close group of around 12. None of us knew he passed, and we are all grieveng now.... Dearest Molly and Sherman, we never knew of his passing. We did know after Paul passed away Michael had issues. (and who wouldn't) Tears stream down my face as I write this. So very sorry Molly that you lost 2 sons. Prayers to you every day. We loved you so much Michael. If only there was something we could have done.... So Much Love from Carin, Karen, Nancy, Sharon, and all the rest from our high school yrs...
