PATRICIA LYNN MAERTENS March 26, 1951 - April 2, 2010 Peacefully with her family by her side, Patricia Lynn passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Patricia will be dearly missed and always loved by her husband Gerry of 25 years. Patricia is survived by her son Jonathan (Azra), and stepsons Robert (Dolores), Richard and James, and her two granddaughters Karyn and Courtney. Patricia is also survived by her mother Julie Gyselinck, sister Diane (Ward), nephews Tyler, Colin and Brett, brother Richard and niece Taylor and nephew Terrance. Patricia was predeceased by her beloved father Daniel Gyselinck. Patricia was born on March 26, 1951 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was raised, educated and lived all her life in the St. Vital area. Patricia grew up in a loving, supportive family. Her Mom and Dad taught her to have strength and love in her life. Patricia really enjoyed the annual family vacations. She met Gerry on May 14, 1982 at St. Bernadette Church and they fell in love. Together they raised their sons in a warm and loving home. Patricia felt blessed with her marriage, her family and her profession. She spent many happy times at country music concerts and travelling. Patricia was a dedicated teacher and principal and a lifelong learner. For over 35 years (Suncrest Colony 31 years, Lowe Farm School 4 years) she was dedicated to the students in her care. Her compassion and enthusiasm was evident in her daily involvement with both children and staff members. Pat embraced each school year with anticipation and excitement. Her ability to organize and prepare for multi-age classrooms was truly remarkable. Patricia was always willing to share her expertise and insights with others. Her giving and kind nature made it easy for others to seek her support. She was well respected in the professional community. Her love for learning will carry on in the lives of the many students she has taught. The family wishes to thank the Victoria General Hospital nurses and staff on 4N for their compassionate care for Patricia. They also extend their gratitude to CancerCare Manitoba. A celebration of Patricia's life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Chapel on Saturday, April 10, at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to remember Patricia may make a donation in her name to CancerCare Manitoba.
