MICHAEL D. KOHAYKEWYCH It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Kohaykewych, who died suddenly on August 7, 2011 at the age of 62. Born in Nilvange, France on March 21, 1949, Michael was the only child of Ivan and Sophie Kohaykewych (Kohajkewycz). The family immigrated to Canada in 1951 and settled in the north end of Winnipeg. Michael completed a B.A. (Honours) degree from the University of Manitoba and went on to study law at the school. Upon graduation, he opened a law firm in Selkirk, MB. Throughout his career, Michael took an active role in many charities and organizations, especially within the Ukrainian community. He was instrumental in the Holy Eucharist Parish Council that oversaw the vision and construction of the church's parish hall, among other key initiatives. Michael enjoyed his winter vacations, in particular his Hawaiian excursions as well as his summer getaways to the cottage in Lester Beach. The family cottage was the cornerstone of many great memories that will forever be cherished by his children. As the children grew up and moved away Michael's dedication to his family continued. He always found time to travel and see his family and continue to make memories with them. He also enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, particularly at sporting events and dinner theatres. Michael is survived by his three children, Mark, Larysa, and Stefan, his granddaughter Alyssa, as well as his cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Sofie and father Ivan and now joins them in eternal life. Special thanks to the staff at the Chateau Louis in Edmonton, AB and the friends here in Winnipeg that have assisted us through this time. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Michael's name. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 13 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat M. Buyachok officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
