BRIAN HINDS

BRIAN JEFFERY HINDS It is with profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, on Sunday, January 29, 2012, with his family by his side. Brian wishes to be remembered by his passions in life. His first love, Irene (nee Webber), came into his life 56 years ago. They fell in love as teens, and have had 50 years of loving marriage as of this past October. From that love came their daughter and son, Heather Lynn and Todd, followed by two granddaughters, Ashley and Heidi. His passion for the outdoors and boating lead him to Kenora, Ontario, where he and Irene settled for their retirement summers with their cottage and boats. Brian felt this was his paradise, and he became the Captain. He met many special friends there, to add to the many he already had. Brian's other love was for animals. He and Irene spent the last six years parenting their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Duffy. Because of his love for dogs, and Cavaliers, he and Irene rescued a second Cavalier, Jamie, in the spring of 2011. He provided both boys with a home full of tender, loving care. Throughout his life he was an outstanding athlete. In his youth, hockey was his sport. At 17 he was scouted by the New York Rangers, but his father felt that Brian should complete his education first. He also earned several titles in speed skating. He grew up on the Red River in Winnipeg, boating in the summer and being quite a talented water skier. He was passionate about golf throughout his life. His first membership being at the Thunder Bay County Club, followed by Wildewood Club in Winnipeg and the Manitoba seniors. He also enjoyed playing at Beauty Bay in Kenora and at Falcon Lake Golf Course. His favourite games were shared with Todd. At the age of 50, Brian decided to take up downhill skiing in Thunder Bay. He loved his annual ski trips to the Rocky Mountains, from British Columbia to Utah. Brian always filled the home with his love for music, which he passed on to his children. He was a man full of passion, tenderness, strength, discipline and a humorous dry wit. He was our hero. He is survived by his beloved wife Irene, daughter Heather Lynn Pouru (Jari) (Thunder Bay), son Todd (Saskatoon), granddaughters Ashley and Heidi Pouru, and of course the boys , Duffy and Jamie. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur Hinds and Maragrite Hinds (Rodier), and his brother Bob. Cremation has taken place. The family will have a private interment. A Celebration of Brian's Life will be held with family and friends when the snowbirds return in early April. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations to CancerCare Manitoba or Palliative Care at St. Boniface Hospital would be appreciated. Our captain has set sail to calm waters. Always loved and missed, but never forgotten. 586-8044
