MABEL OLNEY

MABEL EILEEN OLNEY Mabel Eileen Olney (nee Eby) was born near Kitchener, ON on April 27, 1924, and she passed away at Bethania Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, MB on January 28, 2012 at the age of 87. Mabel is survived by her husband Edgar and their five children: Donna Jansens and her husband Leo of Winnipeg, MB; Lois Penner and her husband Marv of Lake Country, BC; Judi Brouwer and her husband Ed of Osoyoos, BC; Phil Olney and his wife Claudia of McMahon, SK; Dwight Olney and his wife Jeanette of Caronport, SK. Mabel also had 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren at the time of her passing. She is also survived by her sister Marie Potz. She was predeceased by her brothers George and Howard. Mabel was the third of four children. She grew up in Kitchener, ON, where she came to personal faith in Jesus as a young girl. She met her husband, Edgar, at Briercrest Bible Institute where they were both studying. They were married in 1949. After graduation and marriage, they pastored in churches in Birch Hills and Kipling, SK and, later, in Lac La Biche and Medicine Hat, AB. They served on the staff of Briercrest Bible Institute for eight years. Mabel also taught piano lessons for many years. Edgar and Mabel moved to Winnipeg in 1990, where they have had a very fruitful ministry at East Kildonan Baptist Church, especially with the seniors and in the music area. Mabel was a very accomplished pianist and organist, and it was a joy for her to use her gifts for the Lord. She also had a very active prayer life, cared about people and influenced many others around her. A Celebration Service will be held at East Kildonan Baptist Church, 700 Watt Street, on Friday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. Donations in memory of Mabel Olney may be made to East Kildonan Baptist Church.
