ALEXANDER FREDERICK OLLMANN October 16, 1940 - January 27, 2012 Peacefully, and surrounded by his loved ones, Alex gave up his courageous fight with brain cancer. He led a full and interesting life, coming to Canada as a very young man, and quickly becoming a prominent figure in the optical industry in Winnipeg. He held a black belt in Judo, was Manitoba champion one year, and was a tournament squash and tennis player. He loved water and snow skiing, power boating and sailing. Upon retiring, he started a new challenge as an apple farmer and then wine grape grower in the Okanagan. Everything he did reflected his fiercely competitive nature and willingness to tackle hard work. He also enjoyed a good party! He is survived by Tuckie Cameron, his mate of 34 years, his daughter Angie Masse (Clint) and grandsons Casdon and Brent of St. Adolphe, MB, his son Derek (Carly), grandkids Nathan and Cara of Maple Ridge, BC, brothers John and Joe of Calgary and sister Inge of Germany. A memorial will be held Wednesday, February 1 at 1:00 p.m. at Everden Rust Funeral Home in Penticton, and a celebration in his honor will be held in St. Adolphe in the summertime for his Winnipeg friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation, if you like, to the Cancer Society or Humane Society.
