JACK BRIAN BARTLEY April 17, 1938 - January 26, 2012 It is with great sadness that the family of Jack Bartley announce his passing on January 26, 2012 of heart complications during surgery, at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, BC. He will be forever missed by his daughter, Deborah, sons Ken (Katherine), Wade (Molly), and Bryan (Angie); their mother Lillian Bartley, and his grandsons, Case, Carson and Shilo. He will also be missed by his brothers and sisters, including the immediate and extended families of Gary and Elaine Bartley; Gerry Bartley; Theresa Bartley; Shirley and Johnny Chester; Linda Bartley; Barney Carlisle and his many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents Nelson and Gladys Bartley, brothers Rodney and Del, and sister Frances Carlisle. Jack was raised in rural Manitoba near Killarney, and also in Winnipeg. He held dear his memories of his childhood and growing up with his siblings. His children were always excited to visit his brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. Our dad started his career with Manitoba Hydro where he enjoyed a long career as a Journeyman Lineman. He started a new career in Appliance repair and he practised this trade in Killarney and Dauphin. He was an able and ingenious handyman. He realized his dream of moving to the west coast of Canada to be near the mountains and ocean. He moved to Nanaimo, BC in 2009 to be close with his family. Dad loved playing cribbage, coffee shops and a good joke. We will truly miss his smile and care-free attitude. He had a great laugh and was always there to lend a helping hand. He had open heart surgery when he was 40 years old and as the years passed, his heart became weaker, but you would never know it. He was happy, joking and his regular self the day of his planned second surgery. We will always remember that positive, no quit attitude and love for life, family and friends. Our family plans a private gathering on Vancouver Island where we will celebrate his life. As Jack would say: Take Care of Each Other , and so his children would like to honour his legacy by encouraging everyone to celebrate the ones who contribute to who we are, and the moments we spend with them. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
