MICHELE RENEE GIROUX It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our daughter, sister, auntie and friend, Michele Giroux, on Sunday, February 12, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer. Michele was born in Lynn Lake, MB in February 1968. As a child she enjoyed figure skating and excelled in school. She described her years of adolescence in the North as the happiest of her life. Michele's love of the town and her circle of friends led her to finish her last year of High School in Lynn Lake, before moving to Winnipeg to join the rest of the family. Up until her diagnosis, Michele resided in downtown Winnipeg and worked most recently for Basstel. She felt great devotion to the company and in particular, her employer and friend Janie. Michele was moved by the help and support shown by co-workers, and cherished her memories of a special trip to Las Vegas with Janie upon her diagnosis. Michele will be sadly missed by her mother, Carol Giroux and special friend Allan Hume, her brother Phil Giroux (Lee), sister Deanna Lanoway (Tyler), niece and nephew Ava and Dryden Lanoway, and numerous friends and co-workers. She was predeceased by her Grandmother Vera Cummings in 2004. Although Michele was an intensely private person, she found peace and joy in the outpouring of support from friends, both new and old, during her illness and hospitalizations. Michele was especially touched by correspondence from cancer survivors and former Lynn Lakers from around the world, as well as by the generosity and kindness of the nurses at CancerCare Manitoba's St. Boniface unit during her last Christmas. It was her desire that special thanks be given to her coworkers at Basstel, as well as Kelly, Pam, Jeff, and Irene for their friendship, which brought her such joy in her final months. Cremation has taken place. In accordance with Michele's wishes, no formal service will be held. A gathering of remembrance for friends and family will be announced at a later date. The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the exceptional staff and volunteers of Riverview Health Centre, particularly Wing 3E, for their uncompromising care and empathy during Michele's stay. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or to her favorite charity, World Vision. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E. J. COUTU CO.
