- Our common interest in horses brought our paths to cross with Joe, first seeing him at a show at Marge Greenberg's in the 70s, bursting into the ring aboard a little sorrel grade horse named Mannix, and from then on I recognized he was a force to be reckoned with. We belonged to the same horse associations for many years, he trained our horses, and those of our friends. I have my autographed copy of his book right here in my office...a man with a story, a past, and no obstacles too big to overcome. Thanks Joe for your friendship, your horsey advice, and the opportunity to enjoy the horse, not the paperwork....

- Joe reached out years ago to share & publish his life story. His book found its way into my hands about 1980. He had served in Germany with my father. I read his book and it sent me on a quest to, as he did, deal with my own personal demons. At 21 and a serving member of CAF Joe described exactly what I was suffering from and how to deal with my illness. Shortly after Joe came to the east on a book promotion tour and I was privileged to spend some time with him and listen to him speak. On a trip to Winnipeg Joe had me out to see his horses and gave me the grand tour. I always enjoyed his friendship and good advice. Joe was instrumental in helping me to put my life on track 30 + years ago and I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Joe was one heck of a guy and will be missed by all those he touched. My deepest sympathy goes to his family. Doug Roberts
