JO-ANNE IRENE HUTCHISON (nee MYLES) It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Jo-Anne Hutchison (nee Myles) on June 18, 2012 at the St. Boniface Hospital after a very brief hospitalization. Living under the effects of Multiple Sclerosis for the last two decades, her death occurred unexpectedly due to blood clotting. Jo-Anne was born in Winnipeg in 1947 and spent much of her childhood in the St. James area. She graduated from Gordon Bell High School and obtained her B.A. and B.Ed. from the University of Manitoba. She taught and served as principal in Manitoba Reserves before marrying Bruce in 1973 and raising a family starting in 1975. Sadly she was unable to return to teaching when her children were old enough because MS began to set in. Jo-Anne was truly a free spirit who loved music, art, ideas, exploring, creating and living. She was well known for commenting on daily things in a creative, unusual way, to the point that she set her own tone and had a unique perspective on whatever she was doing. Jo-Anne's spirit and personality was an inspiration to all who came to meet and know her; she did not let MS stop her from her being herself. She will be greatly missed by her husband Bruce, her sons Jeff (Colleen) and Rob, her grandchildren Chantel, Alec, Leena and Jarek, her sister Cheryl Kilboy of Fort McMurray, Alberta and her cousins. She was predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Joe Myles, her brother Harold and her daughter Lisa, who was stillborn in 1975. Jo-Anne will also be greatly missed by her cats Shady and Spring (especially Spring) as they comforted each other daily in her latter years. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the multitudes of hospital, medical, nursing and home care workers over the past 12 years, too many to name. The home care workers would not have known when they came the first time to tend to Jo-Anne that they were also going to be tended to and cared for. Special thanks, especially to those who became her adopted children, Neal and Maria, to our friend Kathryn for being the true angel who she really is, as well as to those at the Vic who cared for her many times, especially Eva. Also, thank you to the many doctors who cared for her, especially her family doctor Dr. C. Lowden, and Dr. A. Gomori and Dr. Marriott of the MS Clinic, and to the Independent Living Resource Centre (ILRC) for their unique home care service. A memorial service in honour of Jo-Anne's life will be held on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Corydon and Cambridge. Private committal service to take place at a later date. Special thanks to Rev. Ron Long for being a true friend and pastor as well to Rev. Rick Sauer, pastor of St. Mark's. Donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Manitoba Divisionat 100-1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, MB R3T 1L8, or online at www.mssociety.ca.
