MARY BROWN

MARY EVELYN BROWN (MCCULLOCH) 1925 - 2012 Peacefully, on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at the Fred Douglas Lodge, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, Mary Brown, passed away at the age of 86 years. Predeceased by her parents: Russell and Jane McCulloch, brothers: Douglas and George (Mildred) McCulloch and sister Edna (Vic) Woodward. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband John (Jack) of 66 years, her three children, son: Leslie (Marilyn); daughters: Myrna (Jerry) and Valerie, grandchildren: Marnie (Norm) Brown, Les (Jennifer) Brown, Brad (Shawna) Ferenc, Darren (Monique) Ferenc, Sean (Tara) Lavallee and Lacey Lavallee; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mom was born and raised in the Treherne District and attended Camille School. She went to work in Brandon during the Second World War and there she met and married Dad. They then moved to Winnipeg to start their life together. She raised her children while working as a cook at the Millionaire Drive Inn and then at the Samovar Restaurant until her retirement. Mom spent many hours knitting, crocheting, making ceramics and painting the many lawn ornaments made by Dad. Mom loved to travel throughout Canada and into the U.S.A. Mom was a member of the Independent Order of Foresters and enjoyed going to the picnics and dancing at the socials. Mom volunteered many hours at the "Coffee Break" rest stop and the many fundraising Bazaars where she was well known for her homemade saskatoon pies. Mom's joy in life was her grandchildren and she spent many summers with them at the trailer along the Whitemud River. The family would like to thank nurse Margaret and the staff of Elm and Maple at the Fred Douglas Lodge for the care and compassion given to Mom. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 28 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Winnipeg MB.
