ANNE SLOCHYNSKY July 21, 1923 - June 22, 2012 Friday, June 22 was a very sad day for the family and friends of Anne Slochynsky. My Aunt passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital. She was 89. Anne was predeceased by her dear sister Mary, her mother Doris, John (Erna), her loving brother, and Father William. She leaves to celebrate her life her nephew Garry (Valerie); Richard Slovinski and Niece Linda Slovinski, and sister-in-law Erna Slovinski, great-nieces Andreah and Morghann; great-grandnieces Ryleigh and Peyton; cousin Marcia and Eddie Jowett and family, David Verdenik and many more friends My Aunt loved life and took everything that life threw at her with pride, dignity and tenacity. Nothing was impossible to my Auntie Annie. Archery, competitive range shooting, fishing, bowling whatever sport or activity you could challenge her to she would excel at. My Aunt may have been confined to a wheelchair but she was far from handicapped in any way. She drove her own car specially equipped with hand controls and in the 1950s this was unheard of. Anne was a long time (50 Year + member of the CAA and was so proud when she received her 50 Year award and pen set. She was a long-time member of the Manitoba Wheelchair Society and was active in every event that was put on by them. Anne was one of 13 original campers of the Gimili Fresh Air Camp and directed the bulldozers as they turned sod for the new Camp in June of 1974. Anne worked at the Wheel Chair Centre and also worked for American Electric for years as a switchboard operator. Some of her happiest moments however were when she could be in her garden with her flowers and plants. She loved the outdoors and wanted to stay out in the fresh air whenever she could. Her and her sister Mary spent many a day and evening in the garden working together to make things grow. I know that the gardens in heaven will be lush and well taken care of and my Auntie Anne will be in her glory. Roses and angels will be with you always. We will be bidding a fond farewell on Wednesday, July 4 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing one hour prior to service at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Please make donations in Anne's name to the Canadian Paraplegic Association (Manitoba) Inc. 211-825 Sherbrook Street Winnipeg, Manitoba R3A 1M5.
