NELLIE WOWCZUK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nellie Wowczuk on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Holy Family Home, aged 81. Mom leaves to mourn her husband of 60 years, Walter; children, Bohdan (Diane), Boris (Shirley), Theresa (Neil) and Joanne; grandchildren, Brittany, Tamera and Stephen; brothers, Steve, Michael, Nicholas, Alex and Melvin; sisters, Anne, Rose, Lena, Doris, Pat, Helen and Alice; many nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by her parents Martin and Mary; sister, Kate; brothers-in-law Paul Wonsiak, Paul Stasiuk, Martin Wilchynski and Bill Sarada; sisters-in-law Mary (wife of Steve), Mary (wife of Michael). Mother was born in a farm house near Hendon, SK on February 12, 1931. She moved to Winnipeg in 1951 and started to work at Paulin-Chambers where she established many friendships, and later was employed by Modern Building Cleaning. Mom enjoyed planting flowers in the spring and growing her vegetables all summer in her and Dad's garden. They grew some of the best tomatoes in the neighbourhood and we will miss those as well as the delicious meals prepared by Mom at Easter and Christmas family gatherings. Mom was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church and before her illness, an active member of the Senior's Club. The family would like to thank Dr. T. Babick and the wonderful nurses and support staff of Holy Family Home (St. Mary's Wing) for the compassion and care given to Mom during her short stay. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7 at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. with Fr. Frank Szadiak, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mom's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, Blessed Bishop Vasyl Velychkovsky Martyr Shrine at 250 Jefferson Ave. or to a charity of one's choice.
