MARGARET THORBURN

MARGARET ELLEN THORBURN December 3, 1915 - July 23, 2012 After a brief illness, Margaret Ellen Thorburn passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg on July 23, 2012. She was 96 years of age. Margaret was born on December 3, 1915. She lived her entire life in the St. James area of Winnipeg. Margaret was predeceased by her parents, James H. Thorburn and Elizabeth Thorburn and by her brother, James Robert Thorburn and his wife Ann Thorburn. Both of Margaret's parents were born in Scotland. They met and were married in Winnipeg in 1911. The family became active in the social and cultural life of the city's Scottish community in the early 1900s. Margaret's father was a member of the Winnipeg Scottish Football Club's championship team of 1910. Margaret was a championship competitor in highland dancing for several years. After graduating from Linwood School, Margaret began a long and enjoyable career spanning about 48 years with the T. Eaton Co. Limited at its store in downtown Winnipeg. Over the course of years, she made many lifelong friends not only amongst her fellow Eatonians but also amongst the clientele of the store. Margaret was blessed with a long, happy and healthy life for over 96 years. She was especially thankful that she was able to live in her own home until just a week before her death. She will be fondly remembered for her caring nature, her kindness and her generosity. Well Done, Margaret!
