DR. ALLAN BARRIE CAMPBELL O.C.; B.S.A., M.Sc. (Man.); Ph.D. (Minn.); F.R.S.Can.; F.A.I.C., D.Sc.(Man.) Dr. Allan Barrie Campbell passed away at the Misericordia Health Centre in Winnipeg on Monday, July 16, 2012 at the age of 89. Barrie is survived by his wife Mavis, daughter Pat (Max) MacCrimmon and granddaughters Penny and Andrea (Ken). Barrie is also survived by his brother Lorne (Kathleen), sister Barbara (John) Carpenter, nephew Andrew and nieces Jennifer, Deborah, Catherine, Jane and Christine. He was predeceased by his parents Mr. Justice Arnold and Petrina Campbell and his nephew Duncan. Barrie had a long and distinguished career as a Plant Scientist with Agriculture Canada. His entire career was devoted to the breeding and development of new rust resistant varieties of wheat for production on the prairies. He received many honours and awards over the years. He was made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1989 for his contributions to Prairie Agriculture and received an honorary degree of Doctor of Science from the University of Manitoba in 1992. If desired, donations may be made to the Misericordia Health Centre or a charity of your choice. At his request, there will be no service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
