VERNA JENKINS

VERNA JENKINS (nee TINNEY) Peacefully on August 5, 2012 at Concordia Hospital, Verna Jenkins, aged 88 years, beloved wife of the late Mel Jenkins, passed away. Verna is survived by her son David (Lilianne), grandsons Wesley (Nikki) and Neil (Ginny), great-grandchildren Mya Kirkness, Keegan and Mason Jenkins, sister Eleanor Christian, sister-in-law Barbara Hryniuk (Lou), and four generations of nieces and nephews who called her Aunty . In addition to her husband of nearly 63 years, Verna was predeceased by her parents Harry Douglas Tinney and Agnes Louisa Watson and siblings Jack, Frank, Pat, Margaret, Fred, Dick, Doug and Joyce. Verna always enjoyed entertaining family and friends. For many years she was active in bowling, curling and golf. In later years Verna and Mel traveled and were very active in the Eaton's Retired Employees Club and their activities. During a trip to Arizona, Verna achieved every golfer's dream, a hole in one, much to Mel's chagrin. Most recently Verna was a resident of Concordia Village III, which she enjoyed immensely and made many new friends. The family would like to thank the staff of N1 South at Concordia Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Verna and her family during her illness. Cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral service. A private family memorial will be held in the Fall. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.

  • We were so sorry to hear of Verna's passing, and send condolences to the family. As you go through this difficult time we will be thinking of you. I have many happy memories of Mel and Verna and my parents Andy and Luella spending time together and laughing about everything. They certainly enjoyed each other's company and shared the same sense of humour.
