ESTHER CARR (GOLDEN) Esther Carr passed away peacefully on February 26, 2013, at age 96. Esther was born in Winnipeg to parents Rose and Solomon Golden. Except for a few years in Vancouver and Montreal, she lived most of her life in Winnipeg. It was in Winnipeg where she met the love of her life, David Carr. They were married on June 14, 1942. Although Esther was a valued employee at the Capitol Theatre, the Airliner Hotel and the law firm of Taylor, McCaffrey, she will be remembered best as a wonderful mother to her three sons. They will always fondly remember their family vacations, with the Miles family of course, at Winnipeg Beach and Detroit Lakes. Friday night dinners were always special gatherings for family and guests. Esther loved bridge, mah jong, golf and a good glass of scotch. She was an avid reader, often finishing several books in a week. She had a lifelong devotion to athleticism. At age 75, she swam 75 lengths of her favourite swimming pool! At 94, she was still at the gym four times a week. She enjoyed travelling and knit the most beautiful creations imaginable for her family. Esther is survived by sons Alexander (Fern), Robert (Shawn Greenberg), James (Colleen Suche), and grandchildren Jill, David, Rachel, Matthew, Ben and Rebecca. She will be fondly remembered as well by Colleen's children Daniel, Jesse and Kiernan. She was predeceased by her husband David and brother David. She is lovingly remembered by her sister Frances Miles, brother Don (Evelyn), and sister-in-law Molly. Esther was a glass completely full kind of woman. Her spark and zest for life were inspirational. Funeral services were held on February 28 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with interment at the Shaarey Zedek Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Carr, Matthew Carr, Ben Carr, Gary Miles, David Miles and Mark Golden. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers (through Home Instead and Revera) who attended to Esther in recent weeks and a special thank you to Dr. Kevin Coates for his extraordinary care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Museum of Human Rights or to the charity of your choice.

When my family moved to Winnipeg in 1958, your family welcomed me into your home and hearts better than anyone else I met. All of you - Sandy, Robert, Jimmy and your Mom and Dad. I have very fond memories of that time, as your Mother would always make me feel at home; a plate at her table was always there for me. Although many years have passed, my memories haven't faded, and my heart is with you all, and your families at this time. My sincerest condolences in your Mother's passing. I am so so sorry to hear of your mum's passing and very sorry that I did not know, so I could attend her funeral. I will always remember her as being as vibrant as her red hair. She was bright and confident and I admired her for that. My first memory of her was when I came to Winnipeg when I was 16 and had a visit. She sent me off with Jim to his room and he played guitar for me. I know you all loved her and she will be missed by all. Darlene - Posted by: Darlene Hendler (Niece) on: Feb 28, 2013
