JOSEPH (JOE) RIESENBACH Joe, age 83, passed away with his family at his side, on April 25, 2013. He is survived by his beloved wife Ruth, children Adrian (Jack) Raizman, Ron (Perla) Riesenbach and Jeff Riesen; grandchildren Joshua Raizman, Alisa (Sean) Pihulak, Ariel, Noah and Carmi Riesenbach. He is also survived by his sister Marion (Sam) Rosenberg. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Ita Riesenbach, and his sister Jennie (Lou) Wasser. Joe was born in Markowa, Poland and was a Holocaust survivor. During the war he and his family were hidden for over two years and they miraculously survived. He never forgot his saviours and sent them parcels and financial assistance. His family will continue this tradition to honour his memory. Joe never missed a family event or occasion and was adored by his grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Joe and Ruth recently celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary this past March surrounded by his family. Joe loved his Jewish heritage and traditions and instilled in his family the values he lived by: generosity, hard work, Tzedakah (charity) and family values. He was a man of action rather than words. His blessed memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family. He was an excellent fund raiser for many worthy causes and was involved with several community organizations. In 2011 he was presented with the Shem Tov (Good Name) award for his volunteer work. The family would like to thank the staff at the Deer Lodge Centre and the Grace Hospital, especially the I.C.U., for their compassionate care in the last two months of Joe's life. Funeral services were held at the Etz Chayim Synagogue on April 26, 2013. Pallbearers were Jack Raizman, Joshua Raizman, Noah Riesenbach, Sam Rosenberg, Cary Wasser and Allen Kraut. Donations can be made in Joe's memory to the Holocaust Education Centre (204-477-7460) or the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (204-289-2000). We were devastated to hear about the passing of our dear friend, Joe. We had hoped that he would overcome this latest hurdle. We shall always remember the wonderful times we had at the reunions of the survivor group where Joe played such an important role in helping to organize the events. Our sympathies to the entire family and to our dear Ruthie. - Posted by: Pat and Michael Kutz (friends and survivor link (Michael)) on: May 08, 2013
