ARTHUR (ART) JAMES LOGAN "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Thomas Campbell It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle and friend, Arthur "Art" Logan on June 26 at the age of 74. He will be forever cherished by his beloved wife, Alison "Ali", children Tara (Jay), Kerry (Dan), Brock (Kara) and Catherine (Chris), and grandchildren Maya, Kainen, Chase, Mason, and Emmett. Missing him also will be his treasured extended family and a wide circle of dear friends. Art was born in Winnipeg on November 29, 1938 to Ellen and Jim Logan. Growing up he was the middle child having an older brother, Alistair and a younger sister, Beth. After graduating high school he took a job with Manitoba Hydro leading to a fulfilling career of 38 years. Art lead a cosmopolitan life and lived each day to the fullest. He laughed easily and his quick wit was something that stayed with him until the end. He enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting, curling, a game of bridge and a good drink of Scotch. He was a lifetime member of the Saracens Rugby Club and was inducted into the Manitoba Rugby Hall of Fame. Family gatherings at Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and birthdays were always a highlight for Art. Art's greatest pleasure was time spent at his beloved cottage at Shoal Lake. Art's girls were the apples of his eye. Tara, Kerry and Catherine were a source of immense pride for Art. He was a "hands on" dad always actively involved in their lives. True to his character, when Art found himself a single dad, he took on full time care of the girls with a heart full of love. During this time Art met Ali, the love of his life. They were married in 1993 and with that, Art's family was complete as he gained a son, Brock. Art embraced him with love and enthusiasm and it was not long before they had developed a strong bond. Although the last several years were laden with challenges for Art, his positive outlook and kindness never faltered. His concern was always for others. With Ali and family at his side he succumbed to ALS with dignity and above all, courage. His faith was steadfast and he drew strength from it as well as many people who were a part of his life. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Medical and Palliative Care Team as well as Home Care workers especially Dr. Roy Smith, Olga, Ella, Vince and Gerry. Thanks also to the ALS Society as well as Brummitt-Feasby House under the direction of Diana Rasmussen. Special thanks goes to Bob Webster for his spiritual guidance. All of you had a hand in providing the compassionate, loving care and support that allowed Art to fulfill his wish to die at home. A funeral service celebrating Art's 74 years of life will be held at St. Mary Magdelene Church, 3 St. Vital Road on Tuesday, July 2 at 1:30 p.m.. A celebration of Art's life will follow at Maple Grove Rugby Park, 90 Frobisher Road. Those wishing to honour Art's memory may make a donation to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 493 Madison Street, Winnipeg, R3J 1J2. His life was gentle, and the elements So mixed in him that Nature might stand up And say to all the world: "This was a Man!" William Shakespeare

  • I feel very blessed to have known "Artie" through our curling club. He always had a smile on his face. A few of us affectionately called him our "little garden gnome" because of his stature but he was a giant in my eyes having battled ALS with such dignity. I will miss seeing him on Sundays at the Fort Garry curling club. All of my love to Ali and family. - Posted by: Trish Schell (Friend from Chippawa curling club) on: Jun 29, 2013
