DOMENICO BEVACQUA

DOMENICO ANTONIO BEVACQUA March 28, 1922 - August 23, 2013 Suddenly and with deep regret, we announce the passing of Domenico Antonio Bevacqua, at the age of 91, on Friday, August 23, 2013, at home with his loving wife of 68 years, Maria, by his side. Domenico is also survived by his children Anna (Reg) Faulkes, Liz (Mike) Horne, Bruno (Adele) Bevacqua and Josie (Wolfgang) Fink; as well as his 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Gino) Giannuzzi, Gina (Mark) Morais, Jeff Faulkes, Sharlene (Nick) Pineault, Christopher (Sandy) Bevacqua, Adam Fink, Samantha (Desmond) Anderson, Jennifer (Stu) Smith, Jocelyn (Matt) Bevacqua and Joel Bevacqua; and 10 great-grandchildren, Noah and Dante, Alexia and Brianna, Chantel and Joshua, Spencer and Piper, Charlotte and "Baby" who is due to arrive in October. The older great-grandchildren nicknamed him "Dancing Nonno" because he loved to dance at every opportunity, and the younger ones nicknamed him "Scooter Nonno", once he started riding his scooter around town. He is also survived by his sisters, Maria Franconero and family and Immaculata Baggio and family, brother-in-law Dino (Adele) Romano and family all of Italy; brother-in-law Domenico (Anna) Romano and family; sisters-in-law Zia Rosa Alecci and family, Zia Immaculata Barbaro and family, Zia Natalina (Bruno) Zappia and family. Dad was born in Gerace, Italy and left home to come to Winnipeg, Canada in 1952. Two years later, after saving enough money, his wife, Maria and four children joined him. Dad was a carpenter by trade and worked very hard all to provide a good life for us. He was so happy when his children were all married and his family continued to grow. With the births of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he could not wait for Sundays when we all got together for Nonna Maria's pasta dinners. He was so proud of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their accomplishments and that Joel would carry on his family name. As most of you know, he would tell everyone he met that he had a wonderful family and he was the happiest when we were all together. Dad, together with Mom, taught all of us many of life's lessons and the importance of family. He helped so many relatives and friends over the years with his skills as a carpenter and never asked for anything in return. Everyone who knew Dad loved him and his sense of humour. In his later years, he participated in the Rendezvous Club at Riverview for over 10 years, where he learned many other crafts of which so many of us are recipients. These gifts will be treasured always. We were so lucky to have had him for all these years and it is wonderful that his grandchildren and great-grandchildren got to know what a wonderful Nonno he was to all of them - from teaching them to play Italian cards, to doing magic card tricks, praising them when they ate all their pasta and meatballs and translating Italian jokes into English which most of the time the humour was lost in translation but we all laughed anyway. When we were all together he would call each one of us by another's name and kept on correcting himself until he got it right. During this past year, he told everyone he met, that when he passed away, he would not be sad, although he would miss us, knowing that his wife, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were all doing well and that would bring him peace. Mass of the Resurrection will be Celebrated on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with Rev. Fr. Renato Pasinato, presiding. Entombment will follow in the Chapel Mausoleum in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. For those who wish viewing will be held prior to Mass. Thank you to the Pallbearers, Jeff, Gino, Mark, Chris, Adam, Joel, Desmond, Stu and Matt. As well, thank you to all our friends and relatives for your love and support, to the Rendezvous Club for their care and attention to Dad and to all the new friends and staff at The Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. • Bevacqua Family, My deepest heartfelt sympathy and prayers to you during this time. May your wonderful memories surround you now as you reflect on this cherished loved one's life. Domenico and my Dad, John Beaque (Bevacqua), would have been cousins. John lived in Ely, Minnesota after having been born and raised in Winnipeg. I know my Dad talked of Dom & Maria often and always with such love - many good stories which were always fun to listen to. I pray they were reunited in Heaven and are having a great time catching up with each other! Blessings to all of you. ~Amy~

  • Our deepest sympathies go out to the entire family at this time of grief. We have been so incredibly fortunate to have known Tony for more than 40 years, and during that time he was deeply caring and loving, making each one of us feel so very welcome and appreciated. Tony's love and kindness extended to all those around him, especially the grandchildren. His voice, laughter, and kindness will stay with us always, and he will be missed.
