GILLES FILLION September 3, 1939 - August 23, 2013 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Gilles Fillion announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Gilles was born in St. Jean Baptist, MB. Gilles leaves behind to mourn his loving wife Audrey of 50 years, along with his three daughters Susan (Clifford, and two grand-children Mark and Marina), Judy (husband Les, and granddaughter Nicole), Tannis (husband Benson, and grandson Benjamin). He also leaves behind three brothers, one sister. Rene (wife Yvette, and three daughters), Lionel (wife Lorraine and two sons), Denis (wife Ellen and two daughters), and his youngest sibling, sister Lise. He also leaves behind to mourn his sister-in-law Catherine (husband Maurice and kids), along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. Gilles is also predeceased by his mother Florence, and father David, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law Marjorie and Andy Stewart. He moved to Kenora at the young age of 17 where he found work at a service station, before getting employed at our local paper mill. He was a dedicated and hard working employee for the Boise Cascade Paper Mill before retiring after 39 years. He had a passion for the outdoors, where he spent many days with his family, camping, fishing and snow machining. He never missed an annual hunting trip with his many longtime friends, where they would spend days roughing it out in the bush, all for the love of hunting. Gilles also had a great passion for his home and garden, where he could be found for hours tending to his gardens and lawn. Gilles met and fell in love with his loving wife Audrey whom he married in 1962. They raised their three daughters and resided in Keewatin their entire lives. Gilles was an active member of the Keewatin Branch Legion, and also volunteered for over 10 years with the Keewatin Fire Department. He also sat as a board member at the Kenora Notre Dame Credit Union for 16 years. Gilles and Audrey both also spent many hours with their three girls who played with the Keewatin Ringette Club. He will be sadly missed by all, but never forgotten. The family would like to send their appreciation to their dear neighbor Robin, the Kenora O.P.P. and as well as the Paramedics for their compassion and assistance with this sudden passing. Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2013, at the Keewatin Legion. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Kenora District Hospital Foundation or of one's choice at 21 Sylvan Street West, Kenora, ON, P9N 3W7. Love your family. Rest in peace. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)
Mom and Dad (Ida and Henry Peterson, who have now passed) enjoyed visiting Gilles and family in Kenora on their travels to Manitoba from Ontario where we lived while I was growing up. Dad especially enjoyed fishing with Gilles. I would like to express my condolences to Audrey and the family. Michelle Peterson (cousin) - Posted by: Michelle Peterson (Cousin) on: Sep 01, 2013
Although we have not known Gilles very much in all these years, it is with great regret that we learned of the passing of our dear cousin. We wish to express our sincere and warm sympathy to his wife, Audrey and all the family. I am the oldest of David Marion's daughters and Gilles was already gone from our home town when I started school but we were getting "news" from time to time from his parents, Uncle David and Aunt Florence. Losing a loved one is always a difficult time and we hope that the good memories of Gilles and the love of God as well as the thoughts of others will help to sustain you through this time of sorrow. - Posted by: Paul and Olive Ayotte (cousin) on: Aug 28, 2013
I wish to send my condolences to all of the family. I did not know Gilles but I know his daughter Tannis very well and have heard many good things about this man over the years. I am so sorry for your sudden loss. You are in my heart and my prayers are with you! - Posted by: Wendy Smith (Friend of Tannis Fillion Love) on: Aug 27, 2013
