He played and coached for the St. Vital Mustangs and coached for the University of Manitoba Bisons. Always very active, he loved cycling, running, photography and woodworking. Doug's kind and gentle nature touched so many people throughout his lifelong career at Winnipeg Regional Health Authority. His knowledge and willingness to help earned him the respect of many. Doug was known for his dry sense of humor and his positive attitude was unwavering throughout his battle with cancer. Doug was always grateful for the time he had. • Doug, We will meet again When we least expect it I will recognize that face & voice in that far out place I won't say goodbye For you & I will meet again Thanks for the gridiron memories My sincere condolences to Doug's family & friends RIP Doug GD - Posted by: GD (Friend) on: Mar 14, 2017

  • Doug was a colleague in the health care system during my 27 years at Winnipeg HSC and the WRHA. He was a hard working young guy in the payroll office when I first met him. He was the (still hardworking and knowledgable) expert on the whole regional Human Resource Information System when, during my last year of work, I needed his help around employee surveys. He was always the go to guy, with answers and understanding when one needed to get things done. More importantly, he was a caring person and friend. He will be missed. Condolences and wishes for comfort and warm memories to his partner Lisa, to his family, many friends. - Posted by: Rilla Edwards (Colleague and friend) on: Mar 13, 2017

  • I worked with Doug for many years at the WRHA and most intensely with the implementation of a new IT system that many of us will recall for a long time. Doug was of the kindest, gentlest and most hard-working people that I have ever worked with and though I knew that he was ill for some time, the news still was shocking and deeply saddening. My thoughts and prayers go out to Doug's friends and family at this most difficult time. Rest in peace, Doug. - Posted by: Paul Kochan (Colleague) on: Mar 13, 2017

  • It is very sad to hear about Doug. It is very difficult to write down here about Doug. He was very nice person. We never compensate his absence. But it part of life. May god give strength to family members to come out from this difficult time. May God Rest his soul in Peace. - Posted by: Ketan Patel (Co-worker) on: Mar 13, 2017

  • My sympathies to Doug's family and friends in his passing. I appreciated the opportunities to work with Doug at the WRHA and will miss his easy going manner, and sense of humour. - Posted by: Gayle Hryshko (Colleague) on: Mar 13, 2017

  • First memory of Doug was years ago as he interviewed for a summer job in the Payroll Department.Upbeat and confident, qualities that followed him on his journey. I like to think that having known Doug has made us all better people despite some of our rough edges and tarnished corners. When he reached that point in life where there was no going back Doug faced things with dignity and determination. We can all grow stronger from that example. Know that many are thinking of you now and sending prayers of comfort and peace. My condolences to all close to him. - Posted by: Randy Myrdal (co-worker) on: Mar 13, 2017

  • My sympathies to all of Doug's family. Our work paths crossed inconsistently but when we were required to partner Doug was engaging, respectful, and so likeable. - Posted by: Trish Bergal (Colleague) on: Mar 11, 2017

  • Doug came to HSC as a young man and I had the job to train him all I knew-it took him a week and then he exceeded every ones expectations. We had lots of fun as he was the only male in the payroll department. Teased him alot. He spoke highly of his family-especially his nieces at that time. A wonderful man to have had worked with him. He will be missed. - Posted by: Edna Edwards (co-worker) on: Mar 11, 2017

  • My wife and I extend our sympathy to everyone in Doug's family. I had the honour of working closely with Doug during my many years at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and you could not find a more dedicated and hard working person. He was always smiling, always optimistic, always eager to find solutions to HR/Payroll problems and above all he was always a team player. I am so happy that I was able to meet with Doug on a trip "home" to Winnipeg last summer for a drink and a chat about old times at HSC. He will be deeply missed by everyone who ever came into contact with him. I will miss him. May he rest in peace.
