NONA BERNADETTE BARRATT (nee SOULES) May 21, 1942 - February 8, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nona Barratt, on February 8, 2017, at the Victoria General Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Jim Barratt, her loyal pup Elsken and her brother-in-law George. She will be greatly missed by her many close friends and her "rent-a-kids". Nona was predeceased by her parents, Bernadette and Orson Soules; her sister Orielle; her mother-in-law Isabella; sisters-in-law, Isabelle and Margaret; brother-in-law-Jack; and her beloved pets, Teddy, Grynyn and Nigel. Nona was born in Hudson Bay Junction, SK. The family moved to various places and she spent her formative years in Dauphin, MB. Nona adored her parents and her eyes would sparkle when she spoke of listening to her mom play the piano. In Dauphin, Nona began working for Manitoba Telecom Services as a telephone operator. She was a dedicated employee spending 37 years with the company. Her intelligence, creativity and work ethic allowed her to thrive professionally through various management and training roles, becoming the first female in a management position. Her career with MTS took her to Brandon and then to Winnipeg, where she would meet the love of her life, Jim Barratt. They were married in 1972 and through 44 years of marriage were deeply devoted and committed to each other. Later in her life she joined the Canadian Cancer Society team in the information centre. Over her 10 years there she served in a multitude of positions. Of her many contributions, she was most proud of her involvement with the Gala Ball, Transportation department and the Relay for Life. Nona had many passions and interests including MTS Pioneer Clowns and Toastmasters Club, but her greatest joy was taking care of others. She will forever be remembered as a tireless volunteer spending countless hours with the Manitoba Marathon, MS Bike race, Canadian Cancer Society, and most recently driving cancer patients to and from their appointments. She was dedicated to looking after anyone blessed to know her. Her generosity was endless and her heart always full of love and kindness. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Manitoba Division, 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
