WILLIAM JOHN THOMAS ARMSTRONG KAY Bill died peacefully on April 15, 2017 in Victoria, BC after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's. He was born on April 16, 1930 in Motherwell, Scotland. Bill is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Helen; his daughters, Sarah and Jennifer; son-in-law, James, and grandson, Theo. He was predeceased by his parents, and seven brothers and sisters. His days were regularly brightened by the cheery visits from his niece, Patsy. He will be missed by many relatives and friends. Bill and Helen were married in Winnipeg on October 11, 1963. Bill served his community as a member of council and was instrumental in the amalgamation of the City of St. James-Assiniboia into the City of Winnipeg. He was a life-long member of the Masons and the Grand Lodge of Manitoba. Bill was involved in business all of his life beginning with Bill's Restaurant, the Westwood Inn and then building a successful bicycle business called Crestview Fix-It. Bill and Helen "retired" to Victoria in the spring of 1985. After a short time exploring the wonders of Vancouver Island, Bill returned to the bike business and built A & J Bicycle World. When he finally retired, he spent his time building his beautiful garden. Bill always enjoyed his trips home to Scotland and shaking off Winnipeg and Victoria winters on Waikiki Beach! The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Elaine at Luther Court who helped make this "Scottish Soldier's" final march so peaceful. We are grateful for all of the kindness of everyone at Luther Court who made Bill's final years good ones. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Redwood Chapel at McCall Gardens. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Redwood Chapel at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Dr. Interment will follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
