VICTOR FRIESEN A golden heart stopped beating April 19, 2017 when Victor Friesen passed away at the age of 77. Vic was born in Ukraine and immigrated to Canada at the age of seven. He was raised in the Steinbach area where his strong work ethic was developed. A certified carpenter, he enjoyed and was highly respected in the construction industry and then at Winnipeg Hydro. Many family and friends benefited from Vic's expertise and skill in carpentry. Retiring in 2002, Vic took up winemaking, producing many excellent wines. He also enjoyed golf, travelling especially to warmer destinations during the winter with Hawaii being the favourite, and he always was available for projects at the homes of his family. Strong in his Christian faith, humble, kind, generous and hard-working, but above all, Vic was a family man. He was immensely proud of his family and his happiest times were those spent with them. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife Jean; children Cheryl, Michele and James, Mike and Jen; grandchildren Michaela (Sean), Matthew, Calvin (Karen) and William; stepchildren Kristen and Craig; five siblings, extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Bette, parents Victor and Katharina, brother Harry, and sister Katie. The family would like to thank Dr. Julie Jones, Dr. Catherine Moltzan and the St. Boniface CancerCare Unit, the Palliative Care Home Team and the St. Boniface Palliative Unit for their compassion and care of Vic. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Sterling Mennonite Fellowship, 1008 Dakota St., with interment to take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate a donation in Vic's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or Mennonite Central Committee.
