DOROTHY DORA MARY ANDERSON (HALLS) June 13, 1928 - April 21, 2017 Dorothy passed away peacefully in her sleep after several months of illness on Friday evening, April 21, 2017 at Park Manor Care Home. She is survived by her son Bryan (Arlette) and daughter-in-law Diane; grandchildren Dana Jensen (Mark), Jason Anderson, Melinda Vandenberg, Miranda Morrison (Andrew) and Nathan Anderson; great-grandchildren Jesse (Lenise), Cody and Josh Vandenberg, Kylie and Emma Morrison, Erica, Zack and Ben Anderson and Megan Jensen, and little great-great-granddaughter Avery Vandenberg. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Clair in 2013, her son Jim in 1986, her parents Margaret and Hiram Halls, brother Earl, and sisters Kate and Alfreda. Dorothy was the youngest child in her family and was born on June 13, 1928 in the Houston / Broomhill district (Albert Municipality) of Southwestern Manitoba where she grew up on the family farm. She attended school in the area and this was where she first met her future husband. She married Clair Anderson in Virden, Manitoba in September, 1945 and they lived on the Halls' family farm for the first few years before moving to Winnipeg in 1951. They had a long and happy life together. As soon as both of their sons were grown up and married and settled on their own they began a journey that had them living in a variety of places in Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia. Their family always laughed when trying to tally up the number of moves they had made. Advancing years brought them back to Winnipeg to be closer to family. They enjoyed many vacations and camping trips over the years and were always ready to hop in the car and go exploring. Dorothy was a kind and caring woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand, especially with her sons and grandchildren. She enjoyed bingo, spending time with family and friends, and she especially liked to go to the casino. She will be missed by all of her family but there are many happy memories. The family would like to extend their appreciation and thanks to the many wonderful workers at Park Manor Care Home in Transcona who looked after Dorothy with such loving care since she became a resident in 2014, especially Nurses Michelle and Rachael. A special thank you as well to Joan who always took time to greet Dorothy with a kind word and a warm hug. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 29 with viewing at 12:00 noon and the service at 1:00 p.m. at Wheeler Funeral Home, 1800 Day Street in Transcona.
