ERIC BURTON GUENTHER February 13, 1926 - May 25, 2017 It is with great love and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, at the age of 91, at Bethania Personal Care Home. Burt was born in Steinbach where he attended school, participated in various sports and had a happy childhood. At 17, he joined the army and at the end of the Second World War returned to civilian life. He settled in his hometown and apprenticed to become an electrician. Upon receiving his Journeyman's license, he moved to Winnipeg where he became an electrical inspector until his retirement. Burt and his wife Marge bought a home in Windsor Park, where they raised their four daughters and became involved with the community. Being very sports-minded, Burt enjoyed curling in the winter and golfing at the Winnipeg Canoe Club, Southwood, as well as in the U.S., Portugal and Cuba. Going fishing at their cottage at Long Lake was a must so that family could enjoy pickerel fish fries. Burt travelled extensively to destinations such as Texas, Portugal, Spain, Hawaii, Australia, Singapore, Fiji and the west coast. He was predeceased by his wife Marge; parents, Peter and Agnes Guenther; brothers, Dennis, Ralph and Lawrence. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ruth Moskal; daughters, Valerie (Ron) Allard, Debra (Reg) Bassham, Lucy Belanger, Kathy (Dale) Karasiuk; stepdaughters, Kim Bradley and Sandra (Bob) Jones, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren; as well as brother Peter (Lottie) Guenther; and sisters-in-law, Thelma Guenther, Marlene Guenther and Edith Guenther. Honouring Burt's wishes, a family graveside service will be held at a later date. A special thank you to the chaplain, the nursing staff and the healthcare aides who provided Burt with loving comfort care as he completed his final journey. Your kindness was greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimers Society, CancerCare Manitoba and the Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home (Spiritual Care) are appreciated.
