ETIENNE AUBRY 1929 - 2017 Peacefully on July 6, 2017, Etienne passed away at Actionmarguerite (Taché). He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Simone Parent, his sister Rita (Reynaldo) Ruiz, his brother Philippe (Yolande Lussier), and his sister-in-law Lise Aubry, and on the Parent side, his in-laws Yolande Bergeron, Frank and Aline (Gendreau), Richard and Elaine (Styles), Ghislaine and Pierre Léveillé, and Carole and Lance Carlson. He also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Clara (Joyal); his brothers Albert (1937), Jean-Paul o.m.i. (1982), Roland (2007) and Bernard (2000) and sister-in-law Solange (2002); his sisters Marcelle Brown (1999), Irène (1970) and Maria Préfontaine (2010) and brothers-in-law William Brown (2015) and Claude Préfontaine (1998); his in-laws Jean-Louis (1988) and Pauline (Dumontier) Parent (2010), and brothers-in-law Jean-Paul (1980) and Joseph (2008). Etienne was born in Ste-Agathe on July 17, 1929. He attended Juniorat de St. Boniface and then joined the Oblates of Mary Immaculate for 32 years. During that time, he worked for the Ministry of Indian Affairs as a Social Worker (1955 to 1972) and belonged to the B Coy Regina Rifle Hugonard Cadet Corps. For his work in the reserve, he was awarded the Medal of Service from the Armed Forces. For his dedication with the "Fédération des Scouts du Canada", he was awarded the medal for "Mérite scout en animation" in 1980 and the first decorative plaque Laurent Ulliac in 1988 for western Canada. He also belonged to the Club Richelieu of St. Boniface for many years, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus - St. Boniface Council. In 1983, Etienne and Simone were married. Together, they enjoyed travelling across Canada and the U.S.A. In 1985, Etienne started his company "Homme à tout faire" - a handyman service he enjoyed because he liked meeting people. He retired from active life at age 82. We wish to thank the staff of 2DE at Actionmarguerite (Taché) for their compassion and care for his brief stay at the Centre. A funeral mass celebrating Etienne's life will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Boniface Cathedral, 190 avenue de la Cathédrale, with Mgr. Albert Fréchette presiding. For those who wish, friends may make a donation to the Parent-Aubry Bursary Fund at the Université de Saint-Boniface, 200, avenue de la Cathédrale, Winnipeg, MB R2H 0H7, or to a charity of one's choice. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

- Posted by: Isabelle Charron (Famille) on: Jul 13, 2017

  • I remember meeting Uncle Etienne in Thunder Bay when my aunt Simone first introduced us to him when I was just a kid. He was uncle "Steve" if we had trouble pronouncing his French first name. We liked him almost right away, even though he might be taking some attention away from our favorite auntie. After that, Etienne and Simone would always be around for family events, supporting us through sacraments, school milestones, weddings and holidays. I have many fond memories of time spent at the lake, enjoying good food, fishing and enjoying each others company/hospitality. After graduating from university when I initially had trouble finding a job that would actually pay me (it was easy finding jobs where you'd be paid nothing) my uncle Etienne took me under his wing in his Handyman business and I learned how to perform numerous fix-it jobs related to plumbing, painting, electrical, windows, flooring, demolition and landscaping. He was always patient and generous with me, always genuinely interested in what was going on in my life and we always had lots of laughs together while working. My uncle who had always been this gregarious and physically strong character started slowing down in the last couple years and it was tough for me to see this happen. I'm thankful that Etienne was able to stay at home for as long as he did with Simone even after he had some health difficulties, he really didn't want to be in the hospital or a personal care home. I'm grateful for the good times that he was able to have even in these last few months, visiting him while he was on the outdoor patio at Actionmarguerite soaking up the sun on some nice summery days. Rest well uncle, until we meet again! - Posted by: Joël Parent (Nephew) on: Jul 12, 2017
