ROBERT (BOB) BRUCE SWANLUND January 20, 1927 - July 12, 2017 With great sadness we announce the passing of our father Robert Bruce Swanlund, at Tuxedo Village Care Home, at the age of 90. He was predeceased by his parents Claude and Florence; his wife Vera; and brother Peter (and spouse Pat). Mourning his loss are sons Paul (Los Angeles), Doug (Lonni) in Sidney, BC and Gord (Shelley) in Toronto; grandchildren Erica (Rich) Berry in Orlando, Sally (Joe) McCabe in Anaheim, Clay and Per Swanlund (Sidney); and his great-grandchildren Bradlee, Chloe and Luc (Anaheim). Dad was born and raised in Winnipeg, graduated from Kelvin High School. He went on to be one of the youngest CA's in Manitoba in 1949. He started at Touche Ross, followed by a very successful 34 year career at Richardson Securities (Greenshields). He called it the "Finest Firm" in Winnipeg. His work there called for much travel and he saw many parts of the world which he enjoyed very much. While a teenager he and two friends built one of the first cabins at Falcon Lake. The "Palace" was enjoyed by many over the years with fond memories for those that visited. Dad was involved with many groups including the Lion's Club, former President of the Carleton Club, and his affiliation as an "honorary" member of the Wartime Pilots and Observers Association (he had wonderful times with this group and was very involved in many reunions). After his retirement he spent many hours tending to his garden and travelling. His favourite time was spent each year volunteering for the Christmas Cheer Board for 15 years. Dad was known for many things, including his love of the Monarchy and all things England. Even more so, his sense of humour and incredible memory for telling jokes. Anyone who has heard "Shropshire County Championship Marching Brass Band" will know what we are talking about. Cremation has occurred and a "Celebration of Life" will be held at a later date. Our family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their support and compassion. He will miss a good friend he met there (Peggy). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Christmas Cheer Board or charity of choice. Dad, we will miss you dearly, say hi to Mom, and "You had a Good Ride".
