Condolences & Memories (25 entries)

  • I just read of Albert's passing. My deepest sympathy to all. I worked with Albert in Div 17 back in the '80s, A memory I have never forgotten is when one of my pet rabbits died, Albert, along with the B2 shift, presented me with a new furry friend to become part of my family. That was a pretty special thing for him to do. - Posted by: Kim Shettler (Former co-worker) on: Oct 08, 2017

  • Morag , it's Noraleigh Cathy(Gerry and Pat Carthy's youngest daughter). I'm sorry to hear of "uncle" Albert's passing, he was by far my favorite friend of my father's. I remember one night back in the late 1970s and my older sister and I were home alone as our parents were out for a night on the town. Much to our suprise there was a knock at the door. It was Uncle Albert checking in on us as he had called our house a few times but got a strange response from whoever answered. ( it was in fact the wrong number because we didn't receive any calls that night) but Albert was concerned and showed up to check Out what was going on. They don't make men like him anymore, that's for sure ❤️ - Posted by: Noraleigh Carthy (Friend ) on: Aug 21, 2017

  • I worked with Albert for a number of years while assigned to Div.17 ..... despite his "crusty" exterior (which was for the most part an act), a more fairer and knowledgeable man would be very hard to find. "Dr.D" you will be sorrowfully missed but memories of you will live on for years to come .... Rest in peace old friend!! Lyle.. - Posted by: Lyle Martin (Friend and co-worker) on: Jul 26, 2017

  • Albert was like a special Uncle to me while growing up. He was always out at our house in Oakbank helping Dad build something and then enjoying a frosty, well deserved mug of beer. He quietly sat ringside at many dog shows with their beloved Ridgebacks. I recall him laughing at the show in Thunder Bay as I was enjoying an ice cream cone, turned my head for a moment and one of the girls (Ridgebacks) enjoyed it with me, to my surprise! He also helped me appreciate Ukrainian culture, and unknown to us at the time, planted the seeds in my brain that later had me enroll our sons in the Ukrainian-Bilingual Education program. I also sat as President of the Ukrainian Bilingual program promoting Ukrainian heritage language options... even though neither I nor my husband are of Ukrainian culture. I always respected Albert's words, his witty humour, his patience and understanding for others. He played an important role in my life, and I am truly blessed to have had him enrich my growing years. Sally (Morag), I am saddened beyond words. Our condolences to you. We are a phone call away if you need us.
