DORIS FLETCHER August 23, 1923 - July 21, 2017 It is with sadness that our family announces the peaceful passing of Doris Marion Fletcher, aged 93 years 11 months on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Extendicare Tuxedo Villa in Winnipeg, after a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at St. Aidan's Anglican Church at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2017. Private family interment will take place at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens following the service. Doris was born in Trochu, Alberta to Harold and Ida Pearl (Clements) Crowle. She graduated from Crescent High School in Calgary and then entered the School of Nursing where she graduated from the Calgary General Hospital in 1946. Soon after graduating from nursing school, she was swept up by the love of her life, Charlie Fletcher. They were married in June, 1948 in Calgary and then established a home in Edmonton. To their delight, identical twin girls, Doris and Dianne, were born in 1949. Two sons, Walter and David followed. Business interests brought the family to Winnipeg in 1957. Doris was an accomplished pianist and had a love of classical as well as 1960's cinematic music. She was passionate about her family and encouraged their participation in many extracurricular activities. She loved to travel, and her favourite trips were to Hawaii. She also relished nature and family time at the family cottage in Clearwater Bay, ON where she continued to water ski into her 60's, much to her family's concern and amazement. In retirement, she remained active with pottery and craft classes as well as line dancing. She and Charlie enjoyed many retirement years together at their winter home in Tempe, AZ. Doris is survived by her loving children, Dianne (John), Walter (Evelyn) and David (Nancy), grandchildren, Cheryl, David, Lauren, Stephen, Carolyn, Richard, Kim, Laura, James, Scott, Cara and Jenna, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Doris was predeceased by her daughter Doris, husband Charlie, brothers, Wesley and John Crowle and sister Edith Doxsee. The family would like to send special thanks to the nurses and staff at Tuxedo Villa, Station One, for their excellent and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Doris can be made to MS Society of Canada as well as Alzheimer Society of Canada. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • 'Back in the day' I went to school as well as St Aidan's church with Doris & Dianne, I remember that Mrs Fletcher (as I knew her) had such a lovely smile & was so kind. My condolences to the family - I know she will be missed by all. - Posted by: Barb Masterman (old church & neighborhood friend) on: Aug 05, 2017

  • To Walter & Family, I had a chance to meet your Mom & Dad years ago, and they were both such class people. Your Mom was such a caring and compassionate person, and always had a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye. From time to time I would see her at Portage Place, so was sorry to hear the news. My sympathies to you and your family….I am certain her legacy will live on. - Posted by: Bonnie Siemens () on: Jul 31, 2017

  • My deepest sympathy to the family.... Such a lovely woman.... I remember so well when they moved to Winnipeg and how excited my friends and I were to meet her daughters. Mrs. Fletcher welcomed all of us to her home on Queenston Street, although she had 4 children of her own to deal with! And fast forward many years to when I was a tour guide, there was Mrs, Fletcher as one od my passengers! My other passengers were amused to learn that I could never call her "Doris"....after all the years she was always Mrs. Fletcher to me! So many nice memories,,... Again, my deepest sympathy.
