CLAIRE EMILY JEANNETTE SARNA (nee JOYAL) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Claire on Sunday, July 30, 2017. Claire has gone to be reunited with her son Timothy (predeceased in 1981). She leaves behind her husband Albert (Al); daughter Michele; sons Jeffrey (Jennifer) and Jason, and grandchildren Alexandra and Cameron. Claire would have been 76 years old on August 8. She was born in Winnipeg, the youngest of six children of J. Antonio "Tony" and Emilienne Joyal. She will be greatly missed by her surviving siblings Therese, Louise, Lucien and Edward, numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, friends, in-laws, and extended family. She was predeceased by her brother Dennis and his wife, Joan. Claire lived in Winnipeg her entire life except for one year in San Diego with her family at the age of 15. The week she returned to Winnipeg, she met the love of her life, Al, on the steps of Holy Ghost Church, where they fell in love, dated for five years, and have been married for 55 years. Claire was a person of great faith, courage and dedication to the Lord, which brought her through all the years of pain with two heart surgeries, cancer, and other illnesses. Claire has been described many times as a remarkable woman whose strength was an inspiration to many people. She was beautiful inside and out. She was extremely generous with her time and talents throughout her life and gave of herself to many local organizations. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Avenue, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Dominic Yuen, presiding. For those who wish, viewing will be held prior to Mass. Interment will be announced at a later date. Our gratitude to the numerous health care professionals who went out of their way to help Claire through these many difficult years of illness. Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Dear Al & Michele! I had the pleasure of working with Claire (aka ClaireBear) at the Health Department for several years. Claire was indeed a "real trooper" - never a dull moment with her (always cheerful with her "zillion jokes"). No doubt - you earned your wings, Claire - fly with the angels now! - Posted by: Monique Kowaliuk (ex-co-worker) on: Aug 09, 2017

  • Claire was a woman of great faith and a good example to others. She had been a Good Shepherd Associate for many years in Winnipeg and contributed her time and good heart to the many activities of the Associates. She loved the Sisters of the Good Shepherd and we loved her. Claire was a prayerful person and had been a prayer companion for children and youth in Marymound’s Programs. She loved to pray the rosary and to sing the hymn –Be Exalted. She rests now in the arms of her Good Shepherd God. • Al and Claire took me under their wing during a time that they themselves were dealing with the worse possible loss. Claire and Al's faith, kindness, and strength taught me so much. I was truly blessed and saying thank you seems so small. Every thought and prayer to Al, Michele, Jeff, and Jason. - Posted by: Tracy McIntyre () on: Aug 05, 2017

  • When God was making the mold that would be Claire, He said, "This one is very special. There will never be one like her. She is perfection. She will touch the lives of many and make a difference. She will love and be loved like no other. She will be Claire". And when He was finished, He broke the mold because He knew CLAIRE would certainly be one of a kind. - Posted by: Louise Lagimodiere (Family) on: Aug 04, 2017

  • I AM FILLED WITH SADNESS TO HEAR OF CLAIRE'S PASSING. I WAS HAPPY TO SPEAK WITH HER AT CHRISTMAS. SHE WAS A REMARKABLE WOMAN. HER SPIRIT IS NOW WITH TIMMY IN GODS KINGDOM. CLAIRE LIKED TO TELL THE STORY OF HOW SHE AND I WERE BOTH CAR-HOPS AT THE VERY FIRST PONY CORRAL ON PEMBINA HWY. SHE INTRODUCED ME TO JERRY, A GOOD FRIEND OF AL'S. AL HAD KNOW JERRY FOR A FEW YEARS AND ACTUALLY TAUGHT JERRY TO DRIVE A CAR. CLAIRE WAS ONE OF MY BRIDESMAIDS AND AL WAS BEST MAN AT OUR WEDDING. BOTH CLAIRE AND AL AND JERRY AND I WERE MARRIED IN 1962. AS OUR CHILDREN GREW, WE EVENTUALLY MOVED IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS BUT ALWAYS KEPT IN TOUCH. I REMEMBER WITH FONDNESS, OUR VISITS TO PETERSFIELD AND CLAIR AND AL'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY. JERRY PASSED IN 2010. MY VERY DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO AL AND ALL THE FAMILY, FROM JOAN HRADOWY AND FAMILY, [DEBRA HOGUE, MATTHEW HOGUE [JEN.] AND GRANT MCMECHAN, LAURA AND HEATHER HANNA, KATHY, DENNY AND CHILDREN, DYSON,DYLAN & KARLY] - Posted by: Joan Hradowy (Friend) on: Aug 03, 2017
