DEAN WADE YURKIW Suddenly and tragically, on Friday, August 4, 2017 at the age of 50 years, Dean was taken from us. Left to cherish Dean's memory are his mother and father, Ed and Vicky Yurkiw; brother David (Doris); sister Susan (Dave) along with nephew Daniel and nieces, Amanda, Savannah and Sydney. In addition, he is survived by aunties, Anna, Jean, Sylvia and numerous cousins across the country. Dean was born in Yorkton, SK and later attended school in Roblin and Dauphin, MB. Following his school years, he travelled to Vancouver and Seattle before settling down in Winnipeg. He loved music and preferred to spend his time, alone, with head phones on - spinning the discs and mixing dance tunes. He resided at the Kildonan Hotel where Dean had been employed for many years, performing DJ service and other maintenance duties. He had also previously worked casually at the MTS Centre doing set up and lighting for many concerts, building a collection of t-shirts from the shows he worked. The highlight for Dean was travelling back home to Vancouver to work the Winter Olympic closing ceremonies at BC Place. Dean struggled with various health issues and was no stranger to tough times. He faced several challenges throughout his life and all of those who worked with him know that he never asked for or expected much in life. He enjoyed biking around town and through the park. On Saturday, August 12, 2017 Dean's Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. All are welcome to attend. The family wishes to thank everyone who helped Dean over the years, especially Ron and Linda, and all his work family at the hotel. Anyone wishing to make a donation in Dean's name is asked to contact the family for charity information. Wojcik's Funeral Chapels & Crematoriums, Winnipeg, 1020 Main Street, 204.586.8668 www.wojciksfuneralchapel.com I do not ask to walk smooth paths nor bear an easy load. I pray for strength and fortitude to climb the rock-strewn road.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)
I was truly saddened and shocked to hear of Dean's passing and I thought how much I am going to miss him. He loved my cabbage rolls and I always tried to have some for him. He was so grateful for the smallest of kindness that anyone would show him. Dean was the type of person that would do anything for anyone if they asked and he often offered his help saying "If you need any help doing anything around the house, you just let me know"....He often talked about his family and I got the sense that he really loved and valued them.....and looked forward to any time he was going to spend time with them......my deepest sympathy goes to his family and I hope that the kind words from family and friends and the fond memories you have of Dean will bring you some comfort and this most difficult time.... - Posted by: Kathy Sam (Kildonan family) on: Aug 13, 2017

Dean and I grew up on the same street in Roblin, Mb. He lived next door to the park and all the kids in the neighborhood used to show and play all the time. Even though he had a tough life, he always was good to the people who were good to him. I saw him not long ago at a gas station in St. Vital and we talked for the longest time. He will be missed and never forgotten. Rest in peace friend. God Bless - Posted by: Grant Souter (Friend/Classmate) on: Aug 10, 2017
