RINO CANAL It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rino, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 after a battle with cancer. Rino was born in Fregona, Italy on August 24, 1931 where he grew up with his parents Lorenzo and Antonia and his five siblings, Millo, Caterina, Mario, Olivia and Wilma. He joined the Alpini army in 1952 and in 1954 he moved to Canada to begin a new life. Soon after arriving in Canada, Rino settled in Winnipeg where he eventually met Karla Konig at the German dance hall. Many lasting friendships were made at the dance hall, where Rino and Karla continued to go dancing for many, many years. Rino loved three things in life First, he loved his family and would do anything for them. Rino leaves behind his lifetime partner, wife and friend Karla, his daughter Maureen, his son Virginio, daughter-in-law Susan, grandson Colby and granddaughter Virignia, all of whom will miss him immensely. The rest of Rino's family still lives in Italy. His surviving brother Mario and two sisters Caterina and Olivia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends will miss his return visits back home. Secondly, Rino loved to work, whether as an iron worker with Dominion Bridge for 30 years, around the cabin, in the garden, at his daughter's stable, or just puttering around in general. Lastly he loved his wine, a true Italian who made his own wine from real grapes. A big thank you goes out to Dr. G. Balko and nurse Teresa, all the staff at CancerCare who are such caring professionals, the compassionate home care workers who tended to our family needs over the past few weeks, and our emergency services personnel for their thoughtfulness. Thank you also to the many friends who have shown their support over the last few months. A special thanks to the Alpine group for accepting the honour of being pallbearers; Umberto DeiCont, Domenico DeLuca, Gianni DeNegri, Rene Bianchi, Hugo Tomasi, and Gildo Debiagio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 15 at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue officiated by Father Sam Argenziano with viewing prior to service at 10:00 a.m. A private interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House in Winnipeg. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. CHAPEL LAWN 204-885-9715
