DANIEL JOSEPH BALCIUNAS December 7, 1961 - August 31, 2017 With profound sadness we regret to announce the very unexpected passing of our beloved husband and father, brother, son-in-law, uncle, nephew and friend, Danny Balciunas. Left behind to deeply mourn his loss is his devoted wife Savitrah; his beautiful daughter Carleigh (partner Evan Thibideau) and son Brendan; his sister Vida and brother Rennie with sister-in-law Heidi; mother-in-law Margaret Beharrylal; father-in-law John Campbell, to whom he was a son, are equally devastated. He also leaves behind Uncle Norm Stapon, along with the Stapon cousins, Grant (Elaine), Craig, Garth (Cathy), April and Mona (Brian). Remembering him fondly is his nephew Aaron (Melody), Katherine and Bill Berg, Sandra and family. Also affected are many friends and co-workers of Natural Bakery and our extended families, the Bedassies's, Mohammed's, Wegart's, Persad's and Patel's (whom will always remember him dancing). At least we know he is surrounded by love, as he was predeceased by his paternal grandparents and maternal grandparents; as well as his parents Aldona and Alphonse Balciunas, and his late wife Cindy. Danny was born December 7, 1961 in Winnipeg, MB to Aldona and Alphonse, and became baby brother to Vida and Rennie. His early years were spent fishing, camping, being a part of a boisterous Lithuanian household and probably being a pain trailing around after his brother and sister and their friends. Their entire neighbourhood was family and friends, often coming together under one roof. Always a natural and gifted athlete he pursued almost any sport, but his ultimate talent and passion was football. Throughout his high school years he played high level football impressively. His potential was unfortunately stopped by several injuries suffered in the game. He graduated from River East Collegiate in 1980. Part of Danny's legacy was born only four years before him. In 1957, a small corner store at 808 Logan Ave., was bought by his maternal grandparents Jadvyga and Joseph Mikalauskas. His dad Alfonse joined on, and collectively Natural Bakery Ltd. was born. It was a true family business with everyone expected to chip in at all times. Danny learned every nook and cranny of the building, the business, the equipment, also developing a vision of what it could become. Built on four generations, ultimately, he and his brother, Rennie, have realized that goal. Together they managed to grow into a well-respected institution within our community and their product is available across Western Canada. Danny believed he was blessed with two marriages. First meeting Cynthia Berg at a social, they married in 1987. He was a better man because of her. Sadly, Cindy passed in 1999, leaving behind two little ones. In 2001, he met Savitrah Campbell and loved to say, like stated in "The Godfather", he was struck by lightning. She would agree. He was her fairy tale come true. Totally in love, true partners and very best friends for every day after. The two love stories have born and raised two amazing people, Carleigh (23) and Brendan (18). It has not been a journey of two, but of three, to make our family. A true testament to "past, present and future". Without a doubt, his children were his greatest gift and joy. Dedicated from the beginning, loving and forgiving, patient and stern, cheerleader and police, coach and teacher, but always Daddy. Danny was a kind, funny, giving, generous, sensitive soul. Inherited from his father, he gave openly without hesitation. Small and big gestures were the same in his eyes if it would bring joy to you. He thought intently on all things. Regretting mistakes, believing in tomorrow to make amends. More than anything he loved more deeply and more completely than most. In Danny's honour we ask that you drink Cherry Koolaid, read gossip headlines, cheer loudly at every game (especially for the Chargers), travel, dream big, enjoy good food, don't have too many midnight snacks, try new things, go fishing, turn up the music, hug and kiss often, ask for or offer forgiveness, give to the homeless and do your best to look after the ones you love. As our hearts wait to hurt less, we hold onto each other. Viewing will take place Friday, September 15, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, MB. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow, also at Glen Eden Funeral Home. Private interment to follow at a later date. Flowers are accepted or, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Danny's honour to CancerCare Manitoba, Dream Factory, Winnipeg Harvest, Siloam Mission or any charity of your choice. • We met Danny many years ago as a family in the Mall of America. What a great guy ! Danny was a soft-spoken guy with a gentle low key sense of humor. Vera & I immediately liked him. Whenever we met after school picking up our daughters after that weekend we always exchanged greetings and I remember thinking what a thoughtful authentic guy Danny is and who is clearly devoted to his daughter Carly. The years passed and it was great how we would stop and talk for a few minutes to catch up. Sometimes it was just a joke or a complaint about the winter weather but no matter he wanted to stay connected even if it was only in a small way. We are truly sadden to hear of his passing and please accept our condolences - Posted by: Carmelo Militano & Vera Paletta & Adrianna Militano (friend) on: Sep 07, 2017
