RICHARD JOHN ANTON July 12, 1945 - September 28, 2017 Peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, Richard passed away. Left to mourn is his wife Barbara (Dietrich), son Richard Jr. (Heidi), daughter Shelley Johnston (Chris), and grandchildren, Cole, Dylan and Lauren. He is survived by his brother Roger, sisters Marilyn Allan (Casey), Arlene Anton, and many nieces and nephews. Richard grew up in Matlock until, at the age of nine, his family moved to Winnipeg. In high school he found the love of his life and they shared 51 wonderful years of marriage and business together. He started out as a school teacher but In 1968 Richard's great love and passion for business was started when he purchased Nell's Dairy Bar in Selkirk. In 1972 he launched RJ's House of Pizza that grew to 10 locations and was a staple of the pizza business in the 1970s and 1980s. Always expanding, he started Creative Food Products which became a very successful food manufacturing company that he owned until retiring in 2010. He was a great businessman with a good heart and always looked after his employees and his customers who always seemed to turn into friends. His happiest times were spent at his cabins in Minaki with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and being busy out in his yard. Richard and Barb also took many trips all over the world. In winter he lived in his home in Florida where he could continue to garden and go fishing. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, October 15 at the Best Western Plus, 1715 Wellington Ave. at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I was very sad to hear of Richards' passing. I first met Richard through business where I learned early on that this is a man that is passionate about his family, his business and his hobbies. He introduced me to Musky Fishing in 1996 and got me my first whopper at Bud's Buoy near Minaki. He planted a seed that created an annual Musky tournament that is now in it's 16th year. It's a chance for brothers, sons, nephews and cousins to come together and bond and we have Richard to thank for that. To Barbara and family, the MMM Group offers our sincere condolences on your loss. - Posted by: Chuck Asselin (Acquaintance) on: Oct 19, 2017

  • I spent a few summer vacations along with Dennis Siemens at the Matlock Beach home of the Anton family when Rick was just a young lad. We met at the Winnipeg Airport a few years ago and reminisced about the "old days". My condolences to all of Rick's immediate family plus Roger, Marilyn and Arlene. May Rick rest in peace. His multi ventures on this planet are now complete. - Posted by: Roger Leuzinger (Long Time Family Acquaintance) on: Oct 07, 2017
