ALBERT PAUL SALOWSKI June 20, 1940 - October 6, 2017 Peacefully, and with the strength of both of his sons at his side, Albert Salowski passed away at the Concordia Hospital in the early hours of Friday, October 6. He leaves to remember fondly his constant companion, his wife of 53 years, Betty; his three children, Carol (Garry), Daniel (Amanda) and Michael; his pride and joy for many years, his three grandchildren, Rebecca, Elizabeth and Garrett; his sister Olga (Bruce) Chobot; sister-in-law Nettie Forth; brother-in-law Frank Stanley (Cheryl) and many nieces and nephews. Also left to remember him are life-long friends, Alec and Margaret Choboter and their family of Regina. He was predeceased by his parents, Paul and Mary Salowski (Chorneychuk); brothers-in-law, Roy Stanley, Tom Forth, Jim Payne, Neil Morrison and Larry Munday; sisters-in-law, Helen Munday, Anne Payne, Jennie Morrison, Audrey Stanley and Mary Stanley. Dad was born in Cowan, Manitoba and had fantastic memories of being raised there and in Swan River. At 17 years of age, he had to come to Winnipeg and was the first in Manitoba to survive brain surgery. That surgery had him have to learn to talk again and left him with some lifelong problems that would have limited most people. He persevered and excelled out of sheer determination and strength. He went back to school to learn drafting at Tec Voc and over the years he excelled at jobs that left a mark in life. He was a pre-cast concrete foreman and helped build many structures in Winnipeg such as the Richardson Building which he always pointed out to us kids and his grandkids when we passed them. He was an accomplished and talented artist, sign painter and sketch artist and any of us lucky enough to have one of his scenic paintings will cherish them always. He passed his talents for art and music to his children and grandchildren. In the mid 70s, he and mom transferred to Regina through dad's work with the three of us and had many wonderful years there, making memories with the family and our extended family, the Choboters. Mom and dad moved back to Winnipeg upon retirement and had many years here enjoying being together. Dad loved to fish and was able to walk down to the river from their apartment. Mom and dad also had so many friends at the casino and would go early in the morning to have coffee with the kind and friendly group they met there. Dad's health was a challenge off and on for many years, but he was strong and tenacious and would always bounce back. The last few months were tough and we are so thankful for the health support he received here from Cindy Allen and the doctors at Access Henderson, Dr. Pat Harris, the many specialists and the staff at Concordia Hospital Emergency Department and the doctors and staff on the 3rd Floor of Concordia Hospital. They treated him with respect, dignity and patience and he especially appreciated those extra treats of ice cream in the evening. A service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg on Tuesday, October 10 at 7:00 p.m. In memory, donations can be made to the Epilepsy Society of Winnipeg. Rest peacefully dad. There is no more pain.

  • Dear Betty and family you are in my heart and prayers at this difficult time. Albert brought a lot of joy to everyone. How he made us laugh when sometimes he couldn't hear our conversations and the look on his face when he missed the conversation. Albert always had a smile for everyone and I know like many others that Albert will be truly missed. Please take care in knowing you are not alone at this difficult time. Forever in my heart Sandra - Posted by: Sandra Solomon (Friend) on: Oct 07, 2017
