ROWLAND JAMES (JIM) GIBBS Jim passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, September 23, 2017. He was predeceased by his parents, and the soulmate and love of his life, Sharon Greening, in 2007. He leaves behind his three brothers, John (Joan), Gary (Diane) and Ross (Valerie), and numerous nephews, niece, great- nephews and great-nieces. Jim was born and educated in Winnipeg, where he wrote for the U. of M. student paper, The Manitoban, and worked for many years in provincial government. He shared the family love of sports, and was the statistician for the Bisons and Winnipeg Warriors for many years. Jim and Sharon travelled extensively during their early years together, meeting and making long-time friends wherever they went. But his true passion lay in lending his organizational skills and commitment to his many and varied volunteer and charitable activities. Continuing Sharon's love of theatre and commitment to education, he chose to establish through the Winnipeg Foundation an ongoing scholarship for theatre students at both the University of Winnipeg and University of Manitoba. He thoroughly enjoyed his long time and dedicated participation in the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, and numerous other volunteer and mentoring activities. Generous to the end, both in his financial support of organizations he believed in, and in providing mentoring and moral support, he was also very supportive of family. Nothing interfered with Seeding and Harvest with the nephews near Lampman, SK. Jim would tell people he was not available for anything during those times. He could always be counted on to listen, providing advice only when solicited, and to just be there when he was needed. Jim you will be missed by all who knew you. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Friday, October 13 at 2:00 p.m. in St. Margaret's Anglican Church, 160 Ethelbert at Westminster. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory to the Winnipeg Foundation (Rowland Fund or Sharon Greening Bursary Fund) would be appreciated by the family. E.J. Coutu & Co.
