GORDON ALEXANDER SMITH SMOOT On Saturday, September 25, 1999 Gord passed away suddenly at Delta Marsh, a place he loved dearly. Gord leaves his wife of 46 years, Joyce, their son Greg and wife Judie Yarish, daughters Jill and husband Brian Coulter and Allison and husband Rob Stephanson. Gord will be forever missed by his seven grandchildren, Terra, Kim, Taylor, Harrison, Brooklyn, Mitch and Brady. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Blanche and his sister Margaret. Gord also leaves behind numerous relatives and friends. Gord was born July 26, 1928 and lived in Winnipeg his entire life. He owned his own business, Security Iron and Wire which he continued to operate until his passing. Gord loved to downhill ski and was a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol throughout the 1960s and 70s. He taught all of his children at a young age and was so looking forward to passing on his talents to his grandchildren. Gord was also very active with the Fort Garry Rotary Club and the Progressive Conservative party. Next to the love for his family Gords passing was hunting out at Delta Marsh, a tradition that was passed down to him by his father Harry. Gord looked so forward to hosting the annual Pig Roast at Delta Plaza Lodge to gather with friends and family to share stories of experiences in the marsh. He will be sadly missed by all of his friends from the Delta Marsh area. Gord had a special part in his heart for all of his grandchildren. Terra his favourite teener, Kim his assistant babysitter, Taylor his favourite hockey player, Mitch his shack buddy, Harry the next Emmitt Smith and the reason why Gordie needed an assistant while babysitting, Brady his look alike and Brooklyn his favourite baby. He was always available to help out and enjoyed attending all of their sporting events and recitals. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Fraser Kulba who was with Gord on the morning of his passing. We thank Fraser for all his efforts and compassion for Gord during this time. We would also like to extend our thanks to all the staff of Portage District Hospital for their excellent care and efforts. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway Avenue, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to a charity of your choice.
