LEONARD GEORGE BALLANTYNE Leonard was born Thursday, February 8, 1945 at Grand Rapids Reserve, MB. Leonard lived in Grand Rapids all his life until moving to The Pas approximately seven years ago because of his health. He attended school in Grand Rapids and Dauphin. Leonard was united in marriage to Naomi Lachose Thursday, December 19, 1991 at Swan River, MB. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, bingo and had a good sense of humour. Leonard loved family life. Leonard passed away Thursday, February 21, 2002 at St. Anthonys Hospital, The Pas, MB, aged 57 years. He is survived by his wife Naomi; daughter Elaine Turner; adopted children, Marceline Lachose, Angel Ballantyne, Justin Kematch; father Arthur Ballantyne; stepmother Rebecca Ballantyne; brothers, Reuben (Debbie) Ballantyne, Swan River, Raymond (Shirley) Ballantyne, Grand Rapids, Bruce (Gladys) Ballantyne, Grand Rapids, Peter (Iona) Ballantyne, Easterville; sisters, Darlene McKay, Easterville, Elsie Jean (Joe) Morden, Easterville; father-in-law Soloman Lachose; mother-in-law Dinah Lachose; brothers-in-law, Big John Lachose, Raymond Lachose, Russell Lachose, Calvin Lachose; sisters-in-law, Velma Sinclair, Lenore Young; as well as numerous other close relatives and friends. Leonard was predeceased by his mother Agnes Ballantyne; five brothers and two sisters in infancy; grandparents, Angelique and George Ballantyne, Baptiste and Marie Ferland; and several uncles and aunts. Wake services were held Saturday, February 23 and Sunday, February 24 at the St. Alexander Parish Hall, Grand Rapids, MB. The funeral service was held Monday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m., at St. James Anglican Church, Grand Rapids, with Rev. Doug Highway presiding. The eulogy was given by Chief of Grand Rapids, Doug Ballantyne. Interment took place in the Grand Rapids First Nation Cemetery, Grand Rapids, MB. Active pallbearers were Rick Ballantyne, Roxy Ballantyne, Edwin Ballantyne, Charlie Ballantyne, Leslie Ross, Arnold Ballantyne, Allan Easter, and Clarence Easter. Honorary pallbearers were Colin McKay, Stanley Ross, William Ballantyne, Bert Traverse, Ernie Ferland, Francis Lavallee, and special friend Alex Lathlin.
