Many more nieces, nephews, relatives and friends will have fond memories of Evelyns life. Born in Portage La Prairie, Evelyn moved to Winnipeg and spent much of her early years in the West End. After marrying, Evelyn and Orville settled and spent the majority of their lives in Fort Garry. Mom and Dad had many great times together, whether it was Falcon Lake or Grand Beach, or wintering in Palm Springs or San Diego. Evelyn also enjoyed the endless games of bridge with "the gang" from the old Wildewood Club days. Sports were a great part of Moms life as she was very competitive at everything she played. Evelyn was a top ranked tennis player in the province, playing at the Winnipeg Canoe Club and Wildewood Club, she won events in singles, mixed and mixed doubles over the years. As a longtime member of the Wildewood club she had many curling achievements, as well as six time womens club champion. Evelyn was also proud to represent the province in 1972 as a member of the Senior womens golf team. Mom will always be remembered for her generosity, love of her family and desire to have a good time. Mom lived life with a great deal of spirit and honesty. We will miss her charm in telling it like it is. The family would like to extend a special thank you to nurse Jan from the WRHA, as well as the the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Unit for all their care and special attention during Evelyns final journey. All the people that cared for Evelyn over the last year have a special place in our hearts. Cremation has taken place, and as Evelyn wanted, we will celebrate her life at the Wildewood Club, 761 North Dr. on Thursday June 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St, Winnipeg, MB R2L 1X3 or Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba, 1114-233 Kennedy St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J5.
