GERTRUDE STALL Peacefully, on September 12, 2005, surrounded by her family, Gert passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. She was married to her loving husband of 48 years, Nathan Stall, who sadly predeceased her in 1986. Gertrude was born on May 17, 1917 to Annie and Leo Braunstein. She had one brother, Morton, who died at a young age in 1941. Gert and Nathan had four children, Shelley, Morton, Phyllis and Richard. They enjoyed living on McAdam Avenue, travelling the world, summers at Winnipeg Beach, dancing on the Moonlight train, golf, bridge and winters in Palm Springs. They were blessed with a loving and close group of friends that lasted throughout Gert's lifetime. Gert was an accomplished pianist, golfer and bridge player. She attained her diploma from the Toronto Conservatory of Music (ATCM). She was a life member of Hadassah-Wizo and her Jewish heritage played a central role throughout her life. She was the heart of our Shabbat dinners, traditions and holidays. We will always remember her wonderful smile, her delicious meals, her emphasis on family gatherings and we will always cherish the times spent together. Gert will always be remembered with great love and much affection by her children, Aubie Rusen, Phyllis and Marvin Shenkarow, Richard Stall and Lisa Berger; her grandchildren, Sara and Howie, Janis and Jeff, Marnie, Lori and Jeff, Michelle and Laurence, Morris and Rana, Nathan, Jacob, Benjamin and Rosa; her great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Hannah, Anna, Noah, Matthew, Natasha, Gillian, Sydney, Samuel, Tyler, Samantha and Abbie. Tragically, she was predeceased by two of her children, her son Morton in 1963 and her daughter Shelley Rusen in May, 2005. Throughout her life, her dignity, strength and courage were an inspiration to her family. Her values will live in our hearts forever. The family greatly appreciates the care and support extended to her by her caregivers who enabled her to remain at home and enjoy the last years of her life. A special thank you to Dr. Jack Rusen for his care and compassion. In addition, we are grateful to CancerCare Manitoba for their many acts of kindness. Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 15. Pallbearers were her grandsons: Howie Fogel, Laurence Gilman, Jeff Brown, Morris Shenkarow, Nathan Stall, Jacob Stall, Benjamin Stall, and great-grandson Benjamin Fogel. Honorary Pallbearers were Anna Hechter, Jackie Simkin, Jack Rusen, Arnold Ostfield, Michael Ostfield, Terry Braunstein and Barry Caplan. Should you wish to make a donation, please contact the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, Gertrude and Nathan Stall Fund, or Breast Cancer Research at CancerCare Manitoba. Upon reflection, we realize our Mom had just enough - Enough trials to make her strong Enough sorrow to keep her human And enough hope to sustain her happiness.
