ROBERT M. FITZCHARLES 1923 - 2005 Robert Fitzcharles, beloved husband of Faye, passed away in the wee hours of October 1, 2005 at St. Boniface Hospital with Faye at his side. Much loved father of sons, Alan (Norah) Fitzcharles; grandsons, Brett and Adam of Sterling Scotland UK, Barry (Norah) Fitzcharles; grandsons, Barry, Scott and Steven of Brampton, ON. Bob's career as a structural draughtsman spanned over 65 years, starting as an apprentice in Scotland, moving to South Africa and then to Canada. In 1959 he came to Winnipeg to work for Dominion Bridge where he was involved in virtually all their major structural projects. His knowledge and expertise of design and fabrication of highway and railway bridges was renowned. Following a brief retirement in 1988 Robert continued working in the steel industry into his 81st year. He was an avid golfer and had a great appreciation of music, particularly Mozart, literature and history. Bob will be missed and remembered by his many friends and colleagues. A message from Scotland: We remember with fondness Dad's last visit with us here in Scotland when he returned to his old haunts and we listened to the tales of the old days when he was a boy. We remember his wisdom, his dry sense of humour and his innate sense of style. To you Dad, a Celtic blessing with fondest love: Deep peace of the running wave to you, Deep peace of the quiet earth to you, Deep peace of the flowing air to you, Deep peace of the shining star to you. In accordance with Bob's wishes his body was willed to science at the Faculty of Medicine and there will be no funeral service. Flowers gratefully declined, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of your choice.
