HUBERT RIEDL It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Hubert Riedl at St. Boniface Hospital on Monday, October 3, 2005 at the age of 72. He leaves to mourn his wife of 40 years Anneliese and their children, Stephen and Anita and his son Robert Bougie (Donni) and their sons, Virgil and Justin; his sister Christa Weber (Franz) in Germany and sisters-in-law, Margret Hiller in Winnipeg and Uschi Trampe (Volker) in Germany and their families; along with many friends and neighbours. Hubert was born in the mountainous area of Sudetenland in 1933 where he had a very happy childhood. In 1946, together with his family, they were driven out of their beautiful homeland and settled in Retzstadt, near Wuerzburg, Germany. There he continued the Riedl family tradition of professional baking and pastry making. In 1954, Hubert immigrated to Canada, where he became a plasterer. Hubert was an honest, reliable and hardworking man and was particularly well-known for his exceptional skills in applying fancy ceiling moldings. He always joked that now he was decorating ceilings instead of cakes. Hubert loved Canada's great outdoors and the fishing and hunting it had to offer. He was always happiest when staying at his cottage at Lake Manitoba Narrows where in spite of his illness he followed his passion for fishing to the very end. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Klassen Funeral Home.
