IRENE MAE CHIVERS (nee MCDONALD) Peacefully, on November 28, 2005, at Concordia Hospital, in Winnipeg, Irene passed away after a brief and final illness in her last golden years. Irene was born in Winnipeg on May 9, 1927. She was the only child of Clarence and Ethel McDonald who predeceased her in 1976 and 1975 respectively. Irene was raised in Elmwood. After graduating high school from Lord Selkirk and technical training college, she worked at Fry Cadbury for many years until the early 1960's. She then joined the work force of CBC's Engineering Department in Winnipeg where she worked in a senior secretarial position until her retirement in 1988. Irene's work and her career were a tribute to her independence and self sufficiency. She was years ahead of her time and exemplified the true and emerging concept of the modern woman. Irene was very active and enjoyed life to the fullest in everything she did and in the activities she undertook. She was a long time member at Rossmere Golf and Country club active in golf, curling and social activities. Of all the things in her life Irene most enjoyed her time at her summer cottage at Star Lake in the Whiteshell. In 1960 when the cottage was first acquired, a life long adventure began, bringing unparalleled joy to Irene and those who were a part in her 'life' at Star Lake. Friends, neighbours and acquaintances partook in, and shared in this, Irene's greatest pleasure. Heartfelt thanks to those special friends who assisted Irene, particularly in the latter years, at the lake. Irene was a devoutly religious person. She was an active, life long member of Gordon King Memorial United Church. Many close friendships and associations were fostered through the church groups and activities that Irene enjoyed there. Irene will be lovingly remembered by the Mussell family, relatives in England and many dear and close friends whose association, companionship, and support over the years, she treasured and enjoyed. As per Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. A memorial service will be held Monday December 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Gordon King Memorial United Church, 127 Cobourg Ave., Winnipeg. Pastor Troy van Ginkle will preside. A reception in Irene's honour will follow in the church. Flowers are gratefully declined, but donations in Irene's memory can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 1101-191 Lombard Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3B 0X1 KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
